Searching... Is Figmas User Interface trash?

StefanoUX

Almost nobody talks about that, why? After over 1 year of using Figma I sometimes still can’t find things in the right (design/properties) panel.

Sometimes I can’t even find a defined color (good luck with #333 and figma in darkmode 😉 ) or an input field to change something. It sounds strange right? But it’s the first “software” with (in my opinion) an absolute terrible user interface! It never happens to me on any Adobe programs, Sketch, Affinity and other tools. I always know where to look at or I can scan the interface without any problems - but not in Figma.

Yes it’s trendy to show input fields only on hover, but it’s trash when the LABEL LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE VALUE of the field 🤬 You can’t even scan for subtitles because on complex objects almost everything in the whole panel looks the same! HOW on earth can you design a design tool like this?

What do you think? Did you search for something in this panel for yourself?

by the way I use tools like this for more than 15 years and I think Figma is really “overhyped”

Oh yes this happens all the time, because some functionalities simply aren’t easy to find… The menu is a real nightmare, and to be honest i still can’t understand why some things are made in that way… or some useful other things are still unavailable…

Figma has one of the most confusing and poorly thought out interfaces and menu structures I have ever come across. I am so frustrated with it. I find myself having to Google how to do basic things on a regular basis. I’ve just about given up with the way they’ve introduced the new variables. It makes absolutely no sense that you should have to find a different way to apply a variable to something depending on what the system recognises that thing to be. There should just be one action to apply a variable to something, regardless of what that thing is. And you also can’t apply a theme to a frame unless you apply a variable from that theme to something in the frame first. You should just be able to apply the theme straight from the start on the frame and it should apply it across everything that’s added to the frame. The prototyping is still woefully limited. There are advanced prototyping softwares that are 100x more powerful yet are still easier to understand

PURE TRASH.  I’ve been recommended this app year after year and every single time I come back and try it again, the interface is LITERAL TRASH.  I get super frustrated and I immediately quit and vow never to try it again.  For people that don’t design with speed and ease and like to constantly be hunting for things, sure it makes sense, because they’re inefficient anyways.  But for people who know how to COOK and INNOVATE at a high clip, this ain’t it.  I’m NEVER coming back.  Zero improvements.  I fired Adobe for this type of nonsense, and these fools won’t even get another shot.  I’m literally trying out Framer next and if I can mix it with my current champion Canva, I’ll just quietly smirk the next time I hear someone recommend Figma.  <<INSERT TRASH CAN EMOJI>>
