How to downgrade seats without paying more?

I have 4 full seats that we’ve been paying for.  3 need only dev mode access.  When trying to downgrade the users, it says I will be billed additionally for the 3 users I need to downgrade.  I don’t want additional 3 additional dev seats, I want 1 full and 3 dev.  How do I do this?  I keep getting prompted that each change will be an addition, not a change???

When moving users to a different lower cost seat, we first check to see whether that lower cost seat is available in your plan. (A seat is available if it is not assigned to a user.)

  • If the seat is available: The seat is assigned to the user, and their previous seat is made available for someone else to use. (This results in no additional seats or costs.)
  • If the seat is not available: You need to purchase the desired seat for this user, and their existing seat will be made available for someone else to use.

From what you’ve described, you have no need to keep the existing seats available to others. Since we’re not able to assist with billing here on the forum, please reach out to the support team directly: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

So for the layperson, you have to purchase another seat in order to downgrade, so 2 seats per person for the first month I want to downgrade…???

The Figma billing system is totally a robbery! 

We are in the same situation. It is a disgrace that you cannot adjust seats, when they change the pricing and policy!

Hey All, 

If you no longer need an unassigned seat, you can make that adjustment at your next plan renewal or reach out to support directly between billing cycles. You can learn more about how seat changes work, including moving to lower cost seats as I described above here

@dvaliao Maybe I’m not understanding...in my situation from my OP, is there a way to switch the users I have without purchasing an ADDITIONAL seat for each for the first month?

Hey Ben, 

As I described above and in our Help Center article, since you did not have any Dev seats already available on your account, no - you need to purchase the additional desired seat types.

Our company pays by the year and we have over 20 unused full seats that we cant cancel or “transfer” to dev mode seats. How is this supposed to be acceptable?

Edit : those seats were from devs that asked for dev mode but we needed to give them full access at the time since the dev only seat didnt exist yet.
