Hello! Can You help me? When I try to use undo on my Mac by pressing command z there is an issue that Figma just open outlines hidden or visible instead of doing undo. I don’t understand why command + z isn’t working for undo. Help me please 🥺

Hey @zheniaabruj, I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with undo not working as expected. Command + Z should definitely function for undo, just like in other apps. To help troubleshoot, could you share your keyboard settings from your Mac?

  • Are you experiencing this on other apps as well?
  • Is this happening in the browser and the desktop app?

Sometimes this happens if there’s a mismatch between your physical keyboard and the language setting on your Mac. For example, I personally use Command + Y for undo due to using an English keyboard with German settings.

It would be helpful to confirm which keyboard you’re using and what your current keyboard settings are.

Hi there, I am having the same issue.

This is happening in Figma only. In the browser. (I have not tried the desktop app).

My work Macbook has a physcial QWERTZ keyboard, but I have it reset to Qwerty because I prefer qwerty for typing.

When set to Qwerty, Command + Z (or command + Y on the actual keys) results in “outline”, but I just tried Command+Y (so Z on the physical keyboard) and it worked to undo.
Although when I’d tried this in the past I don’t think it worked, but it seems to be working now.

Hi @AnastasiaF

To help us troubleshoot this issue, could you please share your browser information, including the browser name and version?

Thanks!

Hi there, the browser is
Chrome Version 135.0.7049.42 (Official Build) (arm64)

I have since noticed that this happens accross Figma product: FigJam, Figma Slides and the classic Figma.

So I’m on a Mac with a native QWERTZ keyboard, that I have switched to QWERTY via settings. Under these conditions I am unable to use Command Z to undo, I have to user Command Y to undo (which on the physical keyboard in indeed a Z).

This does not happen in other applications, e.g. Google Docs or Microsoft suite, it recognises that I’ve overwritten the native settings and Command Z works as expected (so command Y on the physical keys)

A designer I work with also has this issue and just got used to it.

Hey @AnastasiaF, thanks so much for the detailed explanation and apologies for the delayed response!

I’ve tried to reproduce the behaviour on my end, but everything seems to be working normally here. I’ve attached a screenshot for reference.

Just to help narrow things down—could you double-check whether your keyboard layout is also set correctly within Figma itself? Sometimes individual apps can have different input settings.

If everything looks right and the issue persists, I’d be happy to connect you with our technical quality team to take a closer look.

Thanks,

Hi Gayani, what exactly do you mean when you say “could you double-check whether your keyboard layout is also set correctly within Figma itself?” I was not aware there is some kind of a setting in Figma where I tell it what keyboard I have, is that right?

What I have is a physical QWERTZ keyboard that at Mac OS level I have reset to a QWERTY , every other cloud app has picked this up (Sharepoint, Miro etc) without any additional steps form my side, but not Figma.

Hey @AnastasiaF, thank for the clarification. You’re right that Figma doesn’t automatically adapt to your macOS keyboard layout in the same way. By default, it assumes a US QWERTY layout for shortcuts, which can cause issues like the one you’re seeing. To adjust this within Figma itself you can head to Menu > Preferences > Keyboard layout and switch it from QWERTY to QWERTZ. This should align better with your physical keyboard and hopefully make shortcuts like Command Z behave as expected.

For more information check out this Help Center article: Select keyboard layout

Let me know if that works for you, and if not, I’m more than happy to flag this with our technical team to dig deeper.
