BUG (FIX LAUNCHED): Deleting layers directly on panel doesn't work

emily
Figmate

Hi everyone! For some users, the issue has been fixed by upgrading to the newest version on Chrome.

Can you try upgrading to the newest version and check if the same issue occurs? (The newest is Version 124.0.6367.93 at the moment).
Here is an article how to Update Google Chrome - Computer - Google Chrome Help.

Hi guys, this has just started happening to me today. I can use delete, and copy/cut/oaste from the main artboard but nothing from the layers panel. I can do it no worries in the DT app but just not on chrome, disabled ALL extensions and even tried a new profile but issue persists.

Please help

Moira_Dela_Cruz

Hi all - since you replied on a topic from May, I’m reopening a new one.

At that time, updating Chrome addressed that problem. I went into Figma, and was able to delete layers as expected.

I’d like to have you all verify some info, so I can create a bug ticket:

-Is it only Chrome you have issues with?
-Does it happen on the desktop app or another web browser as well?

can any of you grab a screen recording of when you try to delete the layers panel?

Moira_Dela_Cruz

Hi @ksn

-Is it only Chrome you have issues with?

Yes, I’ve tried it in microsoft edge and it worked there but couldn’t with Chrome. I also tried with my other Chrome accounts but still the same problem

-Does it happen on the desktop app or another web browser as well?

It works fine on the app. Just the (Chrome) browser is the problem

Updating Chrome has not done anything. I have tried with and without extensions (diff profiles)

-Is it only Chrome you have issues with?-

Tried it on app and safari and zero problems, its just Chrome

-Does it happen on the desktop app or another web browser as well?

It works fine on the app. Just the (Chrome) browser is the problem, i also tested it on Safari and it works fine.

ty both! I just added this info to a bug ticket – just another qq: are you both on VPNs?

I’ll send another message when I get an update on my side.

Michal_Hlivka

Hi I have the same problem.
-No delete or backspace button works when selecting from layers.
-Works fine when I select the object directly on board
-I am using chrome and VPN without extensions
-Works fine in Edge
-Restarted and cleared cache but no help

Many thanks in advance for Fixing this.

Thanks @Michal_Hlivka - if you have a sec, can you verify if you turn the VPN off, does that help at all?

Hey @Bm_Ashik - I merged your post over to this topic. Can you take a look at the above posts + try the suggestions mentioned? Let me know how things end up (if anything helps, or it still doesn’t work).

I also can’t copy/paste, or delete from the layers panel for the last two days using Chrome. This is disrupting my workflow hardcore and working in Safari is not ideal for the long run. Is there still no solid solve for this issue?

Still cannot delete or using backspace from mac using latest chrome update.
Please help to fix it

Thank you @ksn !!!
After using it for some time, the problem appeared, I also can’t copy/paste, or delete from the layers panel. So now I use the app.

Michal_Hlivka

Thanks for looking into this @ksn, it really disrupts the workflow.

It seems that indeed the VPN is to blame.

I could not test on the same computer, as my company prevents access to internet outside VPN, but I have tested it on the same account and same internet connection.

On my personal computer it was indeed working fine without VPN.

Also on my work computer , using VPN, it works on the first frame I select. However, after switching to another frame, it stops working anywhere.

So I can delete the layer on the first frame I use (any frame), and then once I use another frame I cannot use it there, or back at the first frame.

Also its not just delete, but any keystrokes on ay layer selected in layers panel.

If the layer was selected directly in the viewing pane, it works just fine.

But its often difficult to select the right layer there. 🙂

I noticed this problem since today as well.

My system:

  • Ubuntu 22
  • Chrome 127 (latest)
  • Figma in browser

I can’t perform any shortcuts anymore when a layer was selected through the layers panel. No delete using backspace, also no copy-pasting shortcuts.

When performing these actions on a layer I selected though the artboard, it just works.

Also, switching to Firefox the layer panel in combination with shortcuts just works.

Thanks for the info – I’m going to add this detail as something that could be a factor on the ticket that is open!

For anyone else - can you please confirm if you are on a VPN, and if so, does turning it off seem to help?

Quick update:

Our engineering team thinks this is related to another issue we have involving Chrome shortcuts. Still looking into it, but making progress! Will update again when I can.

Hello all! I’m letting you know that our engineering team pushed out an update that should have fixed this. Can you please let me know if you still have trouble with the layers panel?

Please make sure to quit and restart Chrome first to make sure you have the latest updates set.
