Why do Frames with Clip Content bug out with Smart Animate applied?

I have a simple animation on click between two frames that only changes the sizing. As you can see, when going back to the original frame, the animation “jumps” instead of smoothly animating to its intended size. Am I missing something in the setup for it to work?

I also encountered this resizing bug and I’ve been struggling with this since January. I’m pretty sure it’s because “Clip content” has been enabled on your frame, at least that’s what’s causing the issue for me. Have you discovered a workaround for this?

Unfortunately no, I filed a bug report and Figma confirmed it. Seems it’s like you say, clip content is the cause.

Yeah, I also experience this jumpy transitions continuously. It’s extremely annoying to explain it to every client when I want to show them the interactions. Also, when I use Actual size (100%) view of my prototypes, there are static glitches looking like the button is literally broken.

I’ve run into this bug recently when making some complex smart animations and even nesting into multiple clipped frames didn’t work. The problem really seems to be resizing. But unlike what everyone said before, I’ve had it happen when scaling up AND down. What “solved” my problem was to not have any other layer changes except the one clipping between frames (previously I was trying to animate 2 things at once) and that seemed to temporarily work.

Already submitted a support ticket to help boost this problem’s priority. But it would be awesome to have more advanced animation tools inside Figma like invision studio or principle. Since Figma is already making strides to branch out to be a ever growing design platform I hope one day we’ll get those features.

Edit: Upon further testing, another solution I’ve found besides the one I mentioned above was to clip most of the parent layers as possible as well as give them a background color. Not really sure which one of those (or if both) “solved” the issue. But it worked on all of the 3 clipping problems I had on my prototype.

Edit 2: I just simply duplicated the fixed prototype flow I mentioned above to do some animation testing and just one of the three clippings resurfaced. I didn’t even touch anything on the copied flow and it apparently broke again. So maybe duplicating the prototype flow just may fix some issues, although it’s very far from reliable and/or consistent.

Still having this issue in February 2023. Anyone discover a consistent workaround?

I just started getting into Figma’s prototyping and have multiple components that have their own variants and smart animations within them. When I put them on their own frame to prototype all works well. When I add them to a single frame with an auto-layout all of the respective animations get wonky. I’ll check for clipped content, but this just feels like a bug.

Still having issues July 2023.
