Making Image Part of Shape

I’m trying to make this image part of a union shape so that the image fits the unique curves of the shape.

Copy the fill from the right object and paste it into the left object. Or change the solid fill of the left object to an image fill.

But then the image would cover the entire shape. I’d like the image to stay the same dimensions.

Resize the shape to fit the image or use a mask.
