Google Font Open Sans is missing

Hi 🙂
I’m back from holiday and wanted to get on with my job. When I wanted to assign styles to labels, I realised that I could no longer assign OpenSans Semibold in the styles. A missing font alert appeared and I had to replace the existing font style with my local one. However, I can’t do that because there are 2 other designers working on the file besides me. There is no problem for them and before my holiday there was no problem for me. Everything is the same for us: we have the same versions of the font and nothing has changed in the style during my holiday.

I have tried many things: Font uninstalled & installed, Figma uninstalled & installed, restarted the computer again and again in between.

Then I had the idea that Figma fetches the Google Fonts itself. So I uninstalled Open Sans again to see if it would work with the defaults. Unfortunately, I then only have the OpenSans Regular. Is there a way for Figma to get the Google Fonts again?

I have also searched all the forums and have not yet found a solution. Has anyone ever had this problem?

I’ve the same issue but with Fira Sans, the variables are missing except for Black and Black Italic…

Hi there,

Thanks for the post! Generally, Figma only updates the Google fonts we serve periodically and so it’s not uncommon for some fonts to take some time to become available in Figma. We’d recommend you install the font locally when you find a new font that we haven’t added yet.

thanks for your reply.

We have finally found a solution for the initial problem, but unfortunately not for Figma fetching Google Webfonts itself.
The initial problem was that, inexplicably, colleagues suddenly had 2 versions of Open Sans on their Mac at the same time. We can’t delete them, but we have anchored our styles so that the wrong version is not used by mistake.
