Running a prototype changes font weight!

Could you try viewing this prototype in full Present mode rather than Preview to see if this changes anything for you?

Could you confirm if you’ve installed a custom font?

Also are you seeing any missing font warnings?

Are you using variables for your prototype?

This has only happened to me on desktop, not browser.

I can confirm this issue appears when in Present mode.

It is indeed an installed custom font, though I have made sure to have all the variations properly downloaded. (No font warnings)

Though I am using components on this prototype, the issue appears on specific texts outside the components.

Sadly, I cannot share the file, since it’s work-related (confidential).

• Is this happening in both the desktop app and the browser?
• Have you tried clearing your cache? Here are the steps for the desktop app: Clearing Cache Instructions.
• Could you try viewing the prototype in full Present mode (instead of Preview) to see if that changes anything?
• Have you installed any custom fonts, and are you seeing any missing font warnings?

I have this issue too.

• Happening in both desktop and browser
• In full present mode
• I’m using custom fonts (but have been for years and never had this issue). No missing fonts warnings.
• It is occurring more reliably on the strings where I am pulling in text variables. But it also sometimes happens on strings where I am not.
• I quit Figma, and reopened it, and that solved the issue of the non-variable strings, but it’s still happening to the variable ones. As soon as I then scroll horizontally on the component with the non-variable strings, they then swap to bold.
• I cleared the cache as per the instructions, and it’s still happening

It could have something to do with scrollable areas. The variable strings which I consistently see the issue on are hidden within a scrollable area and I have to scroll to reveal them. I moved them up the page so they were visible. They were then not bold, and became bold on scroll.

I was using design system styles, and bold variable on the text. But when I detach those, it still occurs.

Update: I’ve found completely detaching the string from font style variables solves it. (So not only the weight, but the family)

This has been an incredibly annoying workaround in order to get my prototype to look right. I really hope this is resolved quickly.

I have this issue too.

• Happening in both desktop app and browser in prototype mode

• I’ve quit Figma, and reopened it, and that solves nothing. As soon as I open the layout in Prototype mode, both bold and regular fonts change to italic
• I cleared the cache as per the instructions, and it’s still happening

What bothers me most is:
even the smartest prototypes, components, layouts and flows are completely ignored if and when the public’s attention is only focused on the fact that everything is in italics.

And the poor designer seems worryingly incompetent in the eyes of his audience
even though the reason for all italics is the software.

I’d prefer to not have an individual support ticket for this, as it appears to be a common bug. I would just like to know when it is resolved.

It would be really helpful if you could provide more information about what’s happening on your end:

• Does this happen in both the desktop app and the browser, or just one?
• Have you tried clearing the cache? This can sometimes resolve unexpected issues.
• When running your prototype, does switching to full Present mode (instead of Preview) make any difference?
• Are you using any custom fonts, and if so, do you see any missing font warnings?
• Are variables being used in your prototype?

If possible, sharing a screen recording of what you’re experiencing would be really helpful for us to investigate further.

• clearing cache in dev tools and refreshing has worked for me but just temporarily. next time i go to prototype link, it’s all bolded again
• happens in browser
• no difference if full screen or preview mode
• we use custom fonts, but no warnings
• we use font variables

I'm experiencing the same issue on the desktop app. Sometimes, I can fix it by duplicating my frame and deleting the old one, but it doesn't always work. Additionally, if it occasionally fixes the issue, but I open the slideshow (desktop app) from another computer, the problem persists on that machine.
