Desktop app doesn´t work with the latest update 😢

I’m sending you this ticket because since the last update of Figma, I can’t use the desktop application on my macOS with Mojave operating system, and I don’t want to update it to the next version.

Since I’ve been paying my subscription for years, I believe I have the right to have a desktop version of Figma that I can use from my work computer.

Please, I’m looking forward to your response to provide me with a solution.

Hey everyone, thanks for your feedback and apologies for any confusion with the notification!

We understand we could have communicated the end of support for your macOS version better and appreciate your feedback.

For reference, Figma only supports the latest version of the Figma app. A semi-automated process disables older versions of the app on a regular basis.

To clarify, the issue arises because our latest version, 124.7, requires macOS 11 or later. Since 12/18, all users on version 124.1 have been required to upgrade due to compatibility and support reasons.

Minimum System Requirements:
On desktop app,

  • macOS: Must be running macOS 11 or later
  • Windows: Must be running Windows 10 or later in a 64-bit environment

On browser,

  • Chrome 99 or later
  • Firefox 101 or later
  • Safari 16 or later
  • Microsoft Edge 121 or later

Hello,

I updated my Figma desktop app this morning. Unfortunately my MacBook Pro is a Big Sur Version 10.13.1 and now the new version doesn’t work because it needs MacOS 10.15 or higher.
I want to know if I can revert to the previous version.
I do have access to the online version, but my internet connection is unstable and its easier to work on the desktop app.

Hey @carlos.castrillo, sorry for the trouble and frustration!

Updating your macOS to the newest supported version is ideal, especially since Apple hasn’t supported Mojave since 2021.

We’re not able to provide older versions of the Figma desktop app, but as a workaround, your best alternative would be using Figma in the web browser.

Functionally, our desktop app is the same Figma that you would access by navigating to figma.com in a web browser.

We’re not able to provide older versions of the Figma desktop app. Updating your macOS to the newest supported version is for the best, but if that’s not an option, your next best alternative would be using Figma in the web browser.

Thanks for your response. I was hoping for a better resolution as I can’t seem to get the Web Browser Version of Figma to remember my default settings and my internet is fiddly where I live.
Hope to be able to sort out an upgrade to my Laptop soon.
Would be good for Figma Developers to keep option of access to older versions in mind for future.

We hear you. We’ll pass this feedback onto the team, but we sadly can’t make any guarantees.

To be transparent, we’re not able to support any desktop app version older than 6 months, and in this case, it’s especially difficult for us to support older versions since Apple stopped supporting Big Sur on November 30, 2023.

I have the same problem here.
It is just very surprising and dissappointing, that you’re not being warned upfront that it only is supported by a certain MacOS and then find out later you can’t do anything about it. Then I wouldn’t have updated it in the first place.

I really hope that you find a solution to offer an older version.

Uh oh, the Adobe trouble begins. This is unacceptable for a web-based desktop app to force update without warning of arbitrary incompatibilities with a system, but thankfully we anticipated those kind of practices and have alternatives.

Dear support or community
Is the any ways to get me back to the previous version of Figma desktop app which allows me to use it on macOS 10.13.6? Because it’s the higher OS I can use on this device.
The app updated automatically and i cant use desktop app anymore.

And the second one, why i cant to contact support from the account? current bug?


hi there, i m windows system user,and enterprise user as well, few days ago i noticed that there is a yellow bar shows up on top of my Figma app. said: your…unsupported(need update)" then i check the download btn on the right. and done. the i get ready to install the Figma.EXE , the old version shows up again. and still tell me need update, where is the mistake? pls help. thx. 😔

Hey @kangrui_bee, sorry to hear this!

Which Windows OS version are you using and are you able to provide the version of the Figma app you have installed as well?

On Windows, to the left of the window controls, select the ⌄ icon. In that dropdown menu, select About Figma for the version number or Check for Updates… to see if there is a newer version.

Paid user~ Updated to the latest version and it stated " You can’t use this version of the application “Figma” with this version of macOS.

Having no alert or hint before the installation. This sounds ridiculous

Same. For reasons, I can’t update the OS on my main MBP… had I known that was a requirement I of course wouldn’t have installed the Figma update.

I managed to get it working by completely uninstalling, then fresh-installing a previous version I found through Wayback:
https:// desktop [dot] Figma [dot] com / mac-universal / Figma-124.2.9 [dot] pkg

I don’t get why they wouldn’t warn that a newer OS is required for the update. I’ve just wasted 2 hours of my day trying to sort this out, in order to get the urgent work done today before the xmas break. Terrible timing!!

This is totally unkind of Figma. Why not warn the users that the upgrade is coming, and tell them what requirements their systems will need to use it?

Seriously disrespectful to all your users! You know very well that the desktop experience is not the same as the app. Moving away from Figma as soon as I can.
