Unable to share a local copy of a file

In the past, when a client sent me a Figma file with view permissions only, I was able to download a local copy and then edit my copy of the file, and share it with others.

Now I’ve received a Figma file and did the same - saved a local copy, and working in the copy.

I can edit it - no problem. But when I try to share it with someone, I get this message:

For you to edit files in this organization, your account needs to be upgraded by an admin. Just click Request upgrade, and we’ll send your request to your organization’s admins.

Not sure what is happening. Can someone please help explain?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m checking with our internal team. I will get back to you when I have anything I can share with you.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi there,

Thanks for your patience. As I checked with our internal team, our team might need more information. So, could you reach out directly to the support team with a copy of your file: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new? Our support team will look into it.

Please make sure you use the email associated with your Figma account, include links to the file in question, and share access with support-share@figma.com. Don’t worry, inviting us to view your file won’t impact your billing.

Thanks,
Toku
