Dev Mode Without Edit Access

Hello,

In our team, we have designers and developers.

Designers should be able to edit files and developers needs to view the dev mode only.
But when i give Full Designer seat to developers for them to access dev mode, they can also edit files. Which is against the whole logic. That’s not makes sense at all.

I don’t want my developers to accidently change my design files. Which is very easy to do so. Risky.

Is there any way to set these seats “read-only” and make them access dev-mode only?

​​Currently, if you’re on the Professional plan, we don’t have a standalone Dev Mode option. However, for those on the Organization or Enterprise plans, Dev Mode is available as a standalone seat. Dev Mode for admins

As you’ve observed, the full Design seat comes with all the Dev Mode features and access. At this time, I’m afraid there isn’t a way to limit a Design seat to only the Dev Mode features.

But here’s a little insight into what developers can do with viewer seats on your team. While they won’t have access to Dev Mode features when they switch Dev Mode on in the toolbar, they still have a few handy inspect options available. They can:

  • Export assets
  • View properties
  • Copy code with a right-click
  • Measure using redlines

I totally get that this may not completely meet the requirements of your developers.
If that’s the case, you might be interested in a feature request that’s been gaining some traction in our community at Add Dev Mode To Professional Subscription separately from design seat. Our team has taken note of this request for future consideration, so your input there is more than welcome!
