I have a file with only variables, which is connected to the code of our site, and feeds the DS file which is another one.
So, for me to make changes to the Variables file, i need to create a branch to not block the dev team if i mess up something, but when i update the branch with the last changes from the main file, is not bringing me those changes. I removed a group of variables from the main file and i’m still seeing them on the branch after updating.
Now i’m wondering if the branches are a good solution for my team since the file only has variables, and if i can’t bring the updates from the variables from the main file, i’m gonna have to copy paste (yay that we have that now) from the branch to the main file.
Is this a bug or limitation from branches? or am i doing something wrong?
I am famous for telling people to try clearing their Figma cache.
Sorry. It is the same as old school help desk questions. Always gotta start troubleshooting at the basics.
Have you tried that?
Don’t apologize because apparently that was it. I’ve been struggling for 2 days jaja. I’ve been working with Figma for years and this is the first time i’ve had to use that option.
Thank you so much

Nice!
Yup. It is getting more and more to be the solution. I think Figma is launching new features without fully vetting them. So they are not really done cooking and probably have not been well-tested by real designers. There are so many things that do not update fully and don’t replicate properly in the last six months.
I just updated a really crazy robust input field component structure and had to clear the cache a couple of times before I even published it to get it to work right.
The catch-22 there is, am I creating components that are too robust? Too resource-heavy? Too complex?
Maybe it is me?
I was once coached by a co-worker in a peer review, “The only constructive feedback I’d say is be wary of making too many things or making things that are too complicated before you’re sure that you need them. Being someone who wants to make excellent, robust things can also sometimes lead to over-engineering things.”
She was right. And great advice! But still, who can resist crafting craziness like this?
You should see the sidebar properties controls!
Either way, glad that worked for you!
Thanks @kennlucas It helped me a lot.
