We were waiting for a couple of months (years?) until the branching functionality supported combining a design file + library in 1 branch. We at the time saw no way to use branching otherwise (most if not all assets and colors sit in a library, not in the design file).
Has this been fixed/changed in the meantime? Or is this still a no-go?
A dumb question perhaps, but how do people work around this? I can’t see anybody that uses libraries using the branches until this is fixed.
I found a workaround to use “branched” library components into a Design File.
Copy Paste the component from the Library Branch, and paste it inside your design file. You’ll see that Branched component instead of the original one.
It’s tedious and each component that is different will be in “updates available” state, where updating it will revert to the original component from the master library.
Thanks, but that is too much of a hassle. It’s so frustrating that Figma is not giving any updates/responses/etc. I don’t get them at all. Like nobody cares over there anymore. Not just in this thread, but all of them it seems.
I totally feel you, I don’t understand why suddenly in a branch an external library is disabled. Given the fact that most companies embracing design system / branching work with multiple libraries. Can somebody from Figma give some feedback to this?
