When attempting to swap the instance of a nested component (e.g. changing the icon in a button), I get the following error.

“An error occurred while retrieving the component or state group”

First time I’ve ever come across this error in all my time working in Figma, so I wanted to find out whether anyone else has experienced this error and, if so, what can be done to solve it?

Thanks in advance!

Hey @Roland_Tomlinson, sorry to see this is happening!

Are you able to share your file with us? https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Our technical quality team will need to take a closer look at your file to see what’s happening on the back end. If you can, please use your Figma account email, include a link to the file(s), and share edit access with support-share@figma.com.

Seeing the same issue. Was this issue resolved @Roland_Tomlinson ?

Hello
My name is Emuna I have a technical problem
I can't use any component from the design system that has been active for over a year.
I get an error message "An error occurred while retrieving the variable"
I would appreciate a quick answer.
Thanks in advance,
Emuna

Hey Emuna, thanks for reaching out! I understand how frustrating it must be to run into this issue, especially with a design system you've been using for over a year. I saw that you’ve already submitted a support ticket (ticket number #1259771), and our team is looking into it.

They’ve asked if you could confirm whether this issue is happening in the Figma desktop app, the web browser, or both. Additionally, it would be helpful to provide the name of the affected component, a direct link to the impacted file and/or any relevant library files, and invite support-share@figma.com with "can edit" permissions so they can investigate further. Just a heads-up, users with @figma.com emails on your team won’t count towards your billing.

Please follow up with them when you get a chance, and let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help!
