Allow subscript and superscript as text style overrides?

Looking for a similar solution. I want to include registration and trademark symbols in my text without breaking my text styles!

Hi, yes, it is important, because as we are working a lot with emissions regulations, making subscripts/superscripts for all these CO2, NO2, square meters, etc. is always painful — even without styles you always have to click another tab, then scroll down to find the selectors, but with design-system styles support it becomes impossible.

Also, it would be nice to have copy-paste to save the subscripts and superscripts status of symbols – right now it is lost and you have to apply it again

I would suggest not to consider subscripts and superscripts as the elements of style — while technically they are defined by HTML tags, semantically (for units and chemicals) they are just additional symbols, like “°” (degrees), it is perceived like a single word. Also, it is odd to imagine the subscript text style used for the whole paragraph or several words.

You can actually already just enter subscript / superscript things like 2, just like I can here: m². But this is limited to a specific amount of characters:

So I can’t use this functionality for the formula’s I commonly need to enter.

On Linux I can use the compose key to input these. Compose key + ^ + 2 gives me ². Compose key + _ + 2 gives me: ₂.

Peter, yes, but it doesn’t solve the principal problem of using styles consistently and using other symbols (as you mentioned, maths formulas, etc.), so workarounds with standard Unicode symbols don’t help that much.

Just wanted to lend my support for this request. The same way styling like bold and italics are able to be added without breaking a style, it would be incredibly helpful for users in the medical field where a lot of references are being cited throughout blocks of paragraphs. Right now we are having to break the styles several times in one block of text.

All the co2 projects out there are designed in broken text styles 😶‍🌫️
This is a tiny fix but a huge improvement for something that can be very repetitive for some, including me.

Adding to this. I deal with large amounts of disclaimers in text (eg. ‘and Notice[DH1]’) and have to break styles constantly to make things superscript. Being able to do this without breaking the style would be a huge benefit 🙏
