Variable cursor in prototypes

Currently, in prototype the cursor appears to be either ‘pointer’ (for everything) or ‘hand’ (if a click interaction set up on an element). I would like to be able to change this to a text cursor, when hovering over an input field in my proto. Affordance is a very important part of UI so surprised theres no way to do this? Of course can hack it by adding an image of a cursor, but then you end up having that plus the actual cursor on screen & it makes things worse. Should be an easy feature to add and would be very much appreciated!

I just went back into Figma to see if this was possible, and was disappointed it was not 😦 This would be super useful.

Just the thing I need right about now - @Figma_Support please make it possible.
Or ist there a work around like image follow cursor or something?
Thank you 🙏🏽

+1 Would love to have this functionality.

There are basic interactions that I can’t mimic in prototypes like hovering on disabled buttons/fields and clicking into a text input field. It would be nice to control the cursor state to build these affordances in at the prototype level and to better help convey the actual interaction while in user testing.

Please add this! 🙏🏽

It’s a very flawed assumption that everything clickable should get the finger pointing cursor 👆🏽

+1 Please add this. It will make prototypes feel more realistic for certain interactions.

It is VERY HARD to run UX testing and research without the ability to change the cursor on hover for key capabilities like drag and drop, click-drag to change size, etc. It also makes it difficult to communicate visually with developers about the desired cursor interactions.

Hey happy folks!

Have you tried with Spline combined with Anima plugin?

spline.design

You can have this hover effect, at least for illustrative purposes and get super creative with it. At least until Figma adds this, which I do feel could be super handy.

Here’s a video that explains Spline. I have no affiliation with any of these apps or video creator 🙂
