Solved

"Sort by" does not retain the selection.

Every time I exit Figma and come back, the previously selected sort order is lost, and it defaults to "Last modified" – "Newest first". Previously, the selected sorting option was always preserved.

Hey both. Wanted to let you know that this was an intentional change on our end. From what I understand, the only page that doesn't reset preferences is the "Last projects" page now.

For more context: this was implemented after feedback from users who thought their files were missing due to filters or sort orders being enabled.

I know this was probably not the answer you wanted to hear, and I completely get why this would be a negative change to your existing workflow. I’m making sure that your opinions and feedback on this are also highlighted as well. We do take into consideration every use case, and want to be sure that changes we make benefit everyone who uses Figma.

Apologies that I can’t offer an alternative solution at this time.

If I misunderstood what your issues were, let me know. I’ll keep this open for now to get any other feedback on this you may have,

The bug was gone after an update long ago, but now it has crept back in again sadly...

Hi @zachs , @Andreas_Schrader , yes, I concur. The issue is back.

I’m getting crazy with it.
I ONLY use/need “alphabetical”, and now is always “last modified”, always, everywhere 😨😭

Hopefully they will fix it again SOON!

@David Giménez , time to repost on Reddit. Last time I did, they fixed it within days. They have employees watching the sub, so that works.

I also have this issue. I know it’s seemingly a small thing but I have to do it every time I am looking for a project. Laptop restart didn’t work; Figma restart didn’t work.

@Paweł Drętkiewicz, this issue appeared 8 months ago, I made a reddit post explaining the issue, and they fixed it within days. Sadly, it’s back. The thing has returned to Derry, and I’m calling y’all.

Thanks so much for that solution, but I never used Reddit 😅🤷
If this is the “Figma forum” where to write the Figma issues. This would have to be the only place where to write them, no?

@David Giménez , It used to be labelled as ‘the frontpage of the Internet’ for a reason :P now there’s a lot of bots, but for niche communities, is a great place to hang. ‘there’s a subreddit for that’. https://www.reddit.com/r/FigmaDesign/

We’ve seen Figma Employees in that subreddit reading and answering users posts as well. This board is a nagging board and is full of users just doing that, but the sub is sometimes where you learn new stuff, or get a hold of creative stuff the community is doing, or eternally answering ‘what’s the best plugin to make my design a real website or app’ over and over again /s

I used it once to tell those figma employees about this and lo and behold, it worked? I don’t know if it was a coincidence or what, but never the less, I just posted today almost the same post as last time. Hoping they’ll fit it soon!

Yep, this is happening to me again like it was 8 months ago. I always want to sort by Date Created and keep it that way. But now it keeps clicking back to Last Modified. So annoying.

Hi team,
I’m using the desktop app and my file sorting keeps resetting to Last modified after every update, even though I set it to Alphabetical. The app doesn’t seem to remember the preference across sessions.

Can you confirm if this is expected behavior, and if not, log it as a bug? It makes managing large projects pretty painful.

Thanks!
