The REST API provides information on the current prototype device, as seen here. However, the Plugin API has no such equivalent way to access this data.
Figma needs to implement a way to record your prototype right within the platform. I “Shift + Command + 5” to record the prototype, but I then deal with the cursor being displayed. I went as far as downloading a plugin to hide my cursor, but try navigating without a cursor for a video lol its hard! Seems like a simple implementation that would really help designers. Cheers
It is a advice for UI3. I like the “Minimize UI” feature in UI3, cause I am used to use keyboard shortcut so I think neat interface is important. But I think It can be better, when I try to set a hidden layer visible, I still need to show layers panel, select the layer and un-invisible it. I wish left panel can be more like right panel, when I select a layer, it will show brother and children layers, and auto-hide when I de-select it.
With the update the Height and width of elements is difficult to find as sometimes it only shows “Fill” instead of the actual height which is still necessary for creating components. Can be specially important for accessibility minimums
We are constantly updating our component library file and we have been working on converting color styles to color variables. When we get conflicts update from main branch to the working branch, the visuals hasn’t been helpful because the visuals look exactly the same. This is confusing as we don’t know what exactly the conflicts are and which branch to go off of. It would be great for Figma UI to actually provide a list of what exactly has been changed instead of just the visuals.
How neat would it be if you could switch to a code version of interaction functions (conditional, navigate, etc.)? So, let’s say you’re creating an interaction that has different outputs depending on other variables, typing could save you a lot of time. Rather than selecting an option from the functions list, scrolling through the variables and/or typing the variable name and click the right one. Especially when, like me, you’re creating a prototype that reuses an interaction from another project. You can of course create a variable collection in your design system/library, but that takes up an entire variable collection slot. Or you can create a separate design library just for this and load its variables in your design project. But what if you can create variables locally with the same name, and because it allows typing, it automatically selects the local variables instead? (or simply copy and paste the function code and paste it, instead of copying the interaction and pasting it ont
It would be really great for the code panel in devmode to have the final height and width of the full element I’m inspecting. I’m constantly going from devmode to design mode to see the frame panel to check width and height.
Figma is so behind. Why there are 3 modes on defining value for the some properties? Free text Selection from defined options Picking variable Why? Think address bar in any browser. You can enter anything and it will do it’s best to give you what you want. Be it an URL, website from history or search query as a fall back. Or Google Maps search bar. Enter coordinates, address, country, or your personally created pin e.g. ‘home’, and it will give you something. Why Figma can not do the same? Want it ‘fixed’ - sure, enter number. Want it to hug enter ‘hug’ and select an option from drop-down menu. Want to use variable - same. Do not remember the name of the variable but remember the value - enter the value Figma match it to available variable names.
I work with text a lot and can’t see easy way to access options in Type details panel. Every time i need access options in Type details panel i need to click on three dots in Text panel. Would be nice to access this options with shortcut when text object selected? (customisable shortcuts is another topic…) If click elsewhere, outside selected text object, panel disappears. It could stay till user choose to close them. You can’t drag Type details panel taller, even vertical space in window is more than enough. Panel is fixed size and you must use annoying scroll to access options at bottom. Maybe theres workarounds or something?
When dragging an absolute positioned element onto the frame it defaults sets to left. It could be a really cool but small automation that when my cursor is positioning within the left half of the view to auto pin left and when I move to the right side to auto pin right.
Hi all, I love the new variables feature. It’s super powerful. But I have a little feature request! While exploring the possibilities to update our company design system, I ran into a question/feature suggestion. We want some files to evolve in a certain variable mode and that mode only. It would be awesome to be able to chose & lock the mode of a file. I assume this would be possible with the Page mode choice, but I’m collaborating with a team mate on that design system and we noticed that when he swap the page mode, it’s not swaping for me, so we guessing that it is linked to the User/Designer view. If something already exist or if i’m wrong please correct me.
I have dozens of projects, teams and files I have to provide feedback on. All notifications are lumped together and it’s impossible to assess the priority. My name is mentioned multiple times during the day. Can you add a simple inbox? or better categorize your notifications by project or team? It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep track of open/closed comments, read/unread or mark as unread. an inbox as a top element in navigation notification dorpwdown with sections and titles, better organization
I think it would be nice if Figma allowed users to choose between a standard mouse cursor and a touch cursor. The only way to switch to a touch cursor is by selecting a device that is supported in the prototype settings. Touch cursors are limited to specific mobile/tablet devices and does not consider touch screen devices that may not fit within those parameters.
It would be nice if we can assign a role for invited users such as (Designer, Developer, Product manager, and others). After assigning a role, there should be a way to indicate their access permissions (edit, view-only, dev-mode). This would particularly be helpful for when designs are ready to be “marked as ready for dev”. For ex, when designs are “marked as ready for dev”, it will automatically send notifications to anyone with the assigned dev role.
I have recently tried to use the Preview window for quick prototyping tasks. Since I usually work with very tall frames, especially for mobile websites, the preview window’s height becomes too tall and therefore doesn’t give me the proper experience of a mobile phone or a normal-sized browser window. Right now, I can only resize the preview window by manually dragging its upper edge. For tall pages, it’s a hassle to resize the window height that way. The Preview window has a couple of options to work with such as Fit Width, Responsive, Resize window to 100%, and Reset Aspect Ratio. None of those options really help me I’m afraid. I also know that I can use one of the Prototype Devices but that becomes a problem if I mix mobile, tablet and desktop frames on the same Figma Page. I want to be able to quickly adjust the height of a preview window. For example by resizing the window either by width only or fit to the height of the screen or by being able to set a height manually via a form
Whenever I create a arrow line, it always defaults to black color with 3px stroke. I often use the arrow line (Shft + L) to indicate any notes/guidelines. Applying default properties like as we do for the text will greatly help with the stroke and color properties for the line aswell. Do you expereince the same thing ? Is there any workaround you could suggest ?
Often I have different implementations of the same screen (just to see the differences look and feels), but they clutter my prototype screen because I only use one of them at a time when prototyping. It would be cool if I could swop them out when demoing as well, so my team can see my different approaches.
I’m seeing that nested component properties are now collapsed by default and there’s no way to control this. This makes these properties harder to discover for the designers using my system. I understand some people want them collapsed by default and so that change was made in UI3. I need an option to control if the nested properties are expanded or not. I’d prefer actually to be able to order these nested properties in with the parent component properties instead of separating them altogether. It doesn’t typically matter to my consuming designer if something is nested or not, they just want to use the parent component.
Hi everyone, I would like to suggest a little improvement. To improve the UX and navigation for none designers in our company, it would be amazing to make descriptions visible on their respective detail screens as well as overview screens. We are currently in a situation where our company has cross-functional team names and also general competence center team names that are not common. We also create projects based on domain area like “payments” or “charging”, here we usually add their respective Product Managers, PO etc. into the description to share with the company who is responsible for this area. The issue is that the description seems to be always hidden, doesn’t matter if it’s a workspace or project. On team level descriptions doesn’t even exist. It would be nice to improve this in future updates, I feel like we have to big white space especially between workspace icon and title which can be used for descriptions (not only this one liner because user don’t even get a tooltip whe
Figma’s slides cannot cycle between font families with the arrow keys like design files. I can’t preview the change of text on the page to that font before confirming the change. Can I preview font changes without using a plugin, or should I just wait for the update?
Hello Figma community! I believe this has already been mentioned in this forum, and I understand Figma’s policy to pay per user per team. But I think the situation where if one user is part of multiple teams, then they’re being charged per each team is a bit unfair. E.g. I might be a freelancer who has their own paid plan, but works with a few companies, who have their own Figma teams already. What I’d like to see instead of being charged per team is for shared projects to respect the team they are being shared with is already paying for a subscription. Think of Slack Connect experience: My customer I work with shares their project with me, and since I have a paid plan already, I can now see the project as shared under my team, and join it without additional charge on my customer’s side.
Currently, FigJam can sort and organize stickies that already exist, but it cannot create separate stickies based on a layer of text. Since we often make notes during usability tests, it would be really great if FigJam AI could transform the text layer with the notes into a selection of stickies containing the key takeaways from the notes.
A double click on a figjam canvas or section should add an element. This could default to sticky or whatever your last element created was. See mural for this behavior.
Hi, While sharing a Prototype how can I lock a view on a single device? I want users only to use iphone 14 pro and not to be able to switch to iphone15 or other resolution
Hi Team, I was thinking about having this feature in the layer panel to speed up searches inside groups and frames instead of expandin and then collapsing groups and go throught every layers to find what you need. See images as a reference Thanks Lorenzo Mariotto
