How to disable 'Keyboard pick selection activated' and 'Keyboard box selection activated' mode

Hi!

Has the canvas panning keyboard shortcuts changed recently? I use Ctrl+Space+scroll wheel to pan and zoom the canvas but now that keyboard shortcut puts me into a Keyboard picking mode. Is this new? It really gets in the way of working.

About five years ago, I reached out to support to ask if Ctrl+Space could be treated the same as Space+Ctrl, as I’ve never seen an app that cares about the order in which the two are pressed. Back then, the keyboard box thing wasn’t a feature, and now it seems like they were sitting on the Ctrl+Space command, knowing they’d eventually fit something into it. But even all these years later, it’s really strange to have to think about what order I press those keys when I need to zoom in to a certain area, which I do all the time.

An option to treat the Ctrl+Space command the same, no matter the order they’re pressed, would be great to have. I still don’t know what kind of situation would call for the awkward keyboard selection tool, but after finally figuring out what it’s meant for, it still feels pretty useless.

If holding Ctrl is used for zooming, and holding Space is used for panning… in the process of navigating/searching files, it doesn’t seem surprising that they may interact, where Ctrl is still being held down when Space is pressed as the user switches between zooming and panning?

To me they are part of the same activity (searching for something) so I trigger this thing ALL THE TIME. Each instance requiring a move to press Esc to disable it again before i can continue working.

A Shortcuts Config UI would be really great (even just for disabling), because it’s not the only Figma shortcut that takes over system-level shortcuts I have for other apps.

Not sure, but it might be worth checking if any keyboard security software is running.

Please just remove this ‘Keyboard pick selection activated’ thing and make Ctrl+space and space+Ctrl exchangeable. This is really frustrating and useless.

Please make it possible to disable this feature completely. On Mac, it’s triggered by Opt + Space. I use a tablet and rely on Space + Cmd to zoom in and Space + Cmd + Opt to zoom out. The feature turns on when releasing the keys because they aren’t always released simultaneously, so if Cmd is released first, the feature activates because Opt + Space is still held down. It’s frustrating and gets in the way of my workflow.

I couldn’t imagine that an app for designing UX (user experience) can have such poor user experience itself. I have never ever seen the same shortcut being assign to two completely different actions depending on the order of keys pressed. I always press shortcut keys simultaneously, so sometimes it registers as Space+Ctrl and in others as Ctrl+Space. It’s infuriating to press shortcuts one key after another - it slows me down a lot.
