Has the canvas panning keyboard shortcuts changed recently? I use Ctrl+Space+scroll wheel to pan and zoom the canvas but now that keyboard shortcut puts me into a Keyboard picking mode. Is this new? It really gets in the way of working.
Hi everyone! Thanks everyone for flagging this. Just to clarify: there isn’t currently an option in Figma to disable the “Keyboard pick selection activated” or “Keyboard box selection activated” modes at this time. We’ve shared your feedback with our team internally.
(After checking with our team, please also note that Space isn’t part of the scrolling gesture:
Ctrl + Mouse scroll: zooms the canvas
The fact that Ctrl + Space + Mouse scroll used to work before was incidental, not an intended feature. Hope this clarifies!)
Clicking with Ctrl+Space and Ctrl+Alt+Space pressed is used for Zoom In and Zoom Out though. And this is the right and only way to write these shortcuts, because “operator” keys go first and “symbol” keys after them. I trigger “Keyboard selection mode” half the times I want to zoom in or out.
I’m still curious what makes it so hard to ignore this bad use experience on a tool that is designed to design user experience?
I’ve been using Photoshop for years, and ctrl+space or space+ctrl doesn’t seem to make any difference. But in Figma, it just doesn’t make a difference, it’s a bit annoying and irritating too to toggle between Keyboard Pick and Box mode.
I’m curious who actually uses this feature? I feel very sympathetic for them who couldn’t use a Mouse, but is it practical for them to use a tool like Figma without a mouse?
If the feature is important for regulatory reason, then move this setting to Accessibility settings and have us a alternative shortcut other than ctrl+space or space+ctrl. This shortcut is absolute necessity which I’m using thousand times in every minute.
