Comment Tool: Persistent Expanded Bubble View

Hey @David_Fite, thanks for the feedback!

We’ll pass this onto our collaboration team for future consideration.

Comments are almost always tied to specific layers on the artboard. However, the list of comments doesn’t display this relationship, as it is separate from the artboard itself. An expanded bubble view of native comments would allow the content of each comment to be seen at a glance without having to open each one individually.

I often need to revisit comments, as I tend to forget their content once I close them. Persistent expanded bubble view would be a solution.

We address this issue by using the Annotate Design plugin. One disadvantage is that annotations aren’t linked to specific layers as native comments would be, so they need to be repositioned each time the layers are moved. The advantage, however, is that all comments are immediately visible and don’t need to be manually opened.

That’s a great suggestion! Having a persistent and expanded bubble view for comments would really improve workflow—especially when managing detailed feedback across multiple frames. It would save time from constantly expanding and collapsing each thread. Hopefully, the Figma team considers adding this in a future update.

When I’m reviewing design drafts, I often switch between related comments in a group. With the current setup, I have to keep expanding each bubble individually, which slows down the workflow. A sticky expanded view would save a lot of clicks.

Even better if Figma could remember the last expanded comment state when reopening a file or navigating between pages. Perhaps an option under Preferences or Plugins would be helpful too.

Thanks for bringing this up — I’d love to see this feature in the next update!
