Figma file disappeared and is not in Trash — TATE--web

Hello,

My Figma Design file TATE--web unexpectedly disappeared from my account.

File name: TATE--web
File ID: y4vS4iwEtBTIjH36v1HLXn
File URL: [redacted by forum moderator to remove PII]
Team: frenckb's team

I am the owner of this file. I last opened it approximately one month ago, and it was working normally. I did notintentionally delete or permanently delete it.

I have already checked:

  • Recents
  • Drafts
  • the team folder
  • Trash

The file is not present anywhere, and Trash is completely empty.

When I open the original file URL while logged into my own account, I see:

“Hmm, we couldn't find that one. This Design file may have been deleted, moved, or made unavailable.”

A collaborator who previously had access to the file sees the same message.

As far as I remember, the file was always stored in frenckb's team, and I do not remember moving it to another team.

I already contacted Figma through Contact support, but I was told that on the Starter plan they could not check the deletion history or server-side recoverability and recommended posting here.

Could a Figma Community Support specialist please help determine:

  1. Whether this file was permanently deleted.
  2. Whether there is any possibility of recovering it or escalating the case internally.
  3. Whether its disappearance could be related to a migration, account-access issue, or another technical problem.

This file contains a significant amount of work for an application project, so I would greatly appreciate any help recovering it.

 

I also found a recently solved Figma Forum case with very similar symptoms:

In that case, Figma Support was able to locate the missing file and determined that it had been deleted but not permanently deleted, and the file was successfully restored.

I found another similar case where Figma Community Support created an internal support ticket to investigate the missing file:

Since my situation appears very similar, could a Community Support specialist please create a support ticket for my file as well and ask the Figma team to check its status internally?

    Hey ​@Egor2000, thanks for reaching out! 

    I took a look on our end, and I can see that this file hasn't been permanently deleted. It was moved to Trash (Aug 31, 2026) by the user “entente”, which means it's very likely still recoverable.

     

    Since Trash is organized per team, here's what I'd check:

    1. Look across every team you're part of. If you're a member of more than one team or organization in Figma, each one has its own separate Trash section. A file trashed under a different team than the one you've been checking simply won't appear there, even if you remember it living somewhere else.
    2. Switch the "created by" filter in Trash to "anyone." Trash can default to showing only files created by you. If another collaborator with edit access moved this file there, it may be hiding from that default view.
    3. Once you spot it, right-click the file. Choose Restore if the original folder still exists. This keeps the file's permissions, comments, version history, and library connections intact. If the folder's gone, use Duplicate to drafts instead. Just know that creates a fresh copy without any of those.
       

    Restoring a file requires Can edit access to both the file and the folder it lived in. You don't have to be the owner, but you do need that access. If you find it sitting in a team you're not currently able to edit in, you'd need a teammate with edit access there to restore it on your end, or grant you access first.
