Bug: Copy and paste of images doesn't work

  • July 12, 2025

Hi everyone,

since the last update I’m experiencing issues with the copying of images into other frames. It seems like the image isn’t stored in cache.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Best,

Finn

Hi everyone — I really appreciate you continuing to surface this, and I’m sorry for the disruption this issue is causing. I’ve checked in with our engineering team, and they’re actively working on a fix.

While I don’t have a specific timeline to share just yet, I’ll circle back here with any new updates as soon as I have them. ⏳

In the meantime, a few designers have reported success with this method:

From the Fill panel → select the thumbnail by clicking on the left of the image. The element will turn blue, and you’ll be able to copy or paste the image by pressing Cmd + C or V. For an illustration, have a look at the GIF image in this thread provided by @Nellya.

Hope that helps in the short term, and thanks again for your continued patience.

Same issue here! Lost the functionality of copy pasting images directly into frame sometime within the last month.

    Figma App 125.6.5

on Macbook Pro M3 Max running Sequoia 15.5

    Thanks,

Hi everyone, quick update from our side: I just checked in with the engineering team, and they’ve pushed a fix to production that should resolve this issue. ✅

💡 If you haven’t already, try giving the tab you’re working in a quick refresh → copy/paste functionality should now behave as expected.

Thanks again for your patience while we worked to get this resolved. Let us know how it goes, and if any questions remain.

    Good day,

As of September 3, 2025, the problem remains the same. I’m using the Desktop App (latest version). If I copy any image (any size) from any browser on MacBook with Command+C and try to paste it with Command+V — whether directly onto a frame or into the Fill panel — nothing happens. It simply doesn’t paste as it used to before.

Could you please let me know if there is any update on this issue?

Hi @Atomicvi — thanks for following up, and I’m sorry for the continued trouble. I checked on this issue today and it should be resolved and working as expected. Have you seen any improvement on your end?

If the problem is still occurring, it would help us get on the same page within the file you’re working in. When you have a moment, could you reach out to our Product Support team directly and include:

    • the link to this Forum thread for context
    • a full-size screen recording of the issue (if possible)
    • a link to the affected file
    • make sure support-share@figma.com has ‘can edit’ access.

Thanks again for keeping us accountable with this — I’ll keep an eye out for any additional reports and updates.

Hi, I just googled this issue and ended up here. I believe this is not working again. I’m trying to copy assets between 2 different account and it doesn’t work.

    Thanks

Hey @Natacha Simoes, thanks for flagging this!

On the file you’re copying from, do you have Can View or Can Edit access?
Anyone with Can View access should be able to copy and export assets, unless the file owner has specifically restricted copying and sharing

A couple other things that would help to know:

    • Are you using the Figma Desktop app or the web browser?

    • If you’re experiencing this in the browser, which one?

    • Is everything updated to the latest version?

    • Do you have any browser extensions installed that could interfere with clipboard behaviour?

Also, when you try to paste  does nothing happen at all, or do you get an error message?

    Thank you for your help!

Hi, thanks for getting back to me!

Yes, I have edit rights on the files I was copying over. As it was 2x different accounts, I was using Google Chrome and the desktop version, I believe they are the latest version yes, but I will check before trying again. It’s not a big issue, it was more of an matter of saving time as I have original files for everything.

No error message, just a black space instead of the image.

    Thanks again!

    Natacha

Hey @Natacha Simoes, thank you for sharing those details!

Copying and pasting images between files (even across different accounts) should work, particularly if you have edit access and are using the latest versions.

Before we escalate, a couple quick things you could try:

    • Try pasting into a new file to see if the issue persists.

    • Test in an incognito window (browser) to rule out extensions.

    • If using the desktop app, try a quick reinstall.

If it’s still happening, a short screen recording showing the copy/paste flow (including the source file and destination file) would be incredibly helpful. I can then pass that along to the team internally so we can investigate further.

    Thank you for your help!
