Hi I am working with a freelancer and he said that I have access to edit.

But I keep getting this warning and I am not an educator or anything related to school.

How do I fix this?

They are not paying for Figma but using a free Education plan which only allows other verified students to edit. They need to create a free Starter team and invite you there to edit, however note that the Starter plan comes with its own limitations.

I wouldn’t recommend having them pay for a Pro team though because to edit together they will also need to pay for your seat, even if you are already paying for your own Figma team.

So I need to ask them to copy their work into a new Figma file? and then give me access to it?

If you have to be able to edit the file together at the same time, they have to create a new Starter team and move the file there. No need to create new files.

If you don’t need to edit the file together at the same time then none of this is necessary and you can just duplicate the file to your own team to get your own copy of the file that you can edit however you need.

When I try to duplicate the work to my draft, it says
An error has occured when copying the file.
