Prototypes Lagging Very Badly

Here it is many months later and I’m still having the same issue. As this was fixed before, it appears to be a server issue. Figma, any chance you can get someone to look at this?

I have the same issue. whenever I click on the play button it shows me a black screen.

This is actually pretty embarassing. Figma has by far the worst prototype performance of any alternative. The performance is exactly as bad on a brand new m1 macbook as a 7 year old macbook pro which is absurd.

Same here, my prototypes work pretty fine until I start adding interactions. Ten instant click interactions with no animations whatsoever are enough to make my prototypes laggy and unusable.

I seriously can’t believe that such issues persist since at least 2020, and Figma doesn’t seem to even bother fixing them anytime soon.

I’ve been using Figma for 3 months and I’m already thinking about switching to another design tool.

Hi, yesterday my figma application was working fine , but today a particular project alone lags and working too low . A guy asked me to work his project and sent me a link so i was doing it . I just wanna know whether my figma is lagging because of his link ?

I am also experiencing a big issue with laggind. One and the same single page layout worked just fine last week, I have actually reduced the options for animated components and elements and it has started performing terribly slow. If anyone has a solution, please share as I can’t present it to the client.

Hey, my prototypes have been lagging for over 2 weeks. I need to round up my project and I’ve been unable to because of this. I’be compressed my images to see if this helps but it’s just all still lagging.

I’ve had this issue on a couple of projects with different machines and got a fix. Most of these issues happen because your GPU is maxing out.

If Chrome, go to chrome://gpu/ (or your browser equivalent) and check the report
View your graphics card specifications (help.figma.com)

Easiest fix is “chrome://flags/”

• Override software rendering list - Enabled
• Accelerated 2D canvas - Disabled
• Out-of-process 2D canvas rasterization - Enabled

Searching for “GPU”, Flags offers a few other things to help take the load off. YMMV

When i screenshare my prototype on zoom, after a few mins, the lag starts. This has been happening for a few days now. My internet connection is fast, but the zoom CPU graph starts maxing out when i start screenshare and the lag shows up. I have reinstalled zoom but it didn’t work. If i don’t use zoom there is no lag. Really frustrated as i have an important demo in a few days. Someone please help.

Was this problem ever solved? I’m also seeing Figma in prototype mode lagging (arrow left and right doesn’t respond to step through) only when screensharing over Zoom. Everything is fine once screensharing is off.

Sounds like someone was troubleshooting using chrome://gpu for web. Is there a way to fix this with the desktop app?

I am currently having this issue. I can’t smart animate more than a couple of layers at a time without performance choking and getting massive frame drops and glitches.

Figma prototype lagging issue is still not solved and its driving me crazy. Simple prototypes work fine but if you add some interactions within the components it starts to lag and does not work properly or it stops for a while and reveals the already loaded prototype .

Yes, It’s lagging really bad. I mean I just added some interactive animations in my project and it started lagging. The more I add the more it’s lagging 🤷

Having the same problem
Especially when using variables interaction.
Sometimes it bugs and does not refresh either and I have to close and reopen my Figma design tab 😭

Please fix, this makes prototypes basically unusable. And it’s significantly worse on mac than on windows, even though neither of my devices should have any performance issue.

Hey Guys, I’m also dealing with this frustrating issue. I’ve tried different browsers(macOS) and even the Figma iOS app, but no luck. The file’s memory usage is 14%. Have any of you found any tips or workarounds? Really appreciate the help!

I’m experiencing the same issue with a prototype that worked perfectly fine 12 hours ago and I already tried everything to mitigate this issue and no success. I hope Figma fix this soon.

I have the same thing. Everything was fine and after I added another prototype, the animation of all the prototypes began to lag. I’m making a website and I didn’t have time to make many prototypes there, and I don’t understand why it’s lagging. I have a very important project and I do not know how I will show it in this form, but I also cannot reduce the number of animations, since I have not even made half of the necessary prototypes. I’m desperate.
