When I release changes to the design system library file, the update behaves inconsistently and I can’t reliably predict how the update will impact my team.

Sometimes text will be completely cleared and reset to the default text found in the original component, while other times the text will remain intact.

Sometimes a component will not update at all even though I have selected to update everything. Instead, I will see the blue sync icon and have to update that component individually, but I will have no idea if this happened across the entire file or not… and more importantly, why that happened.

While other times I will update the component individually and the component actually won’t have the change and I will have reset all changes completely and redo the configuration of the nested instances.

For example, I have an icon component that had a heart as the default icon. There was a request to change the default icon from the heart to a more typical placeholder shape. When I published the library, some icons remained as the designer selected, while others cleared and were replaced by the new default, why???

Overall curious how other people publish changes to their design system and what is the root cause of some of these inconsistencies…

Hey @Ann_Beaver, sorry to hear this is happening!

This could be caused by different factors depending on your file. Are you able to share it with our technical quality team here? https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Please use your Figma account email, include a link to the file, and share it with support-share@figma.com, so they can take a closer look.
