Hi, I tried searching for this but couldnt find a answer. My appologies if I missed a thread where this was already discussed.


I’m having issues using the “Export Frames to PDF” function that is built into Figma. When I try to open the PDF in Acrobat, I get a little error pop up that says that “The File is Damaged but it is being rebuilt.” I let Acrobat do it’s thing, but then when I go to the Advanced Optimization setting to compress the file (I’d rather do it this way than use a plugin), It says I need to save the file, but then I cant, because it says that the file is “read only” even though no other instances of the PDF are open.


It’s not a huge deal, and I have found a work around. ( just close the Figma and the PDF and then repoen the PDF and for some reason, I am then able to save the PDF and then use the optimization settings to compress the file).


But it seems a little buggy. Any ideas why this might be happening? Like I said, not a huge deal, just a little annoying, especially when you’re under a crunch, and have to explain the work around to your team mates.

I’m also experiencing this issue. Though Acrobat tells me that “An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem.”

Could you also try to export the frame again and see the difference?

Would you mind trying to open the exported PDF in an alternative software capable of opening PDFs?

Also, have you attempted the workaround shared in the previous post to see if it works?


After trying above, if the file opens correctly in the Preview app or browser, but not in Acrobat, could you please contact Adobe’s support team?

  • A brief video recording that shows how you import the pdf file from Figma. Please ensure the entire Figma window is visible, including the Properties and Layers Panel.

  • Please share the direct links to the file and grant “can edit” permissions to support-share@figma.com (this will not affect your billing).

I am also seeing the same error when trying to open the Figma exported PDF in Adobe Acrobat - I am not able to see anything except white pages for majority of the frames

Workaround is to open with preview, then export and select “Create PDF/A”, then you can open with Acrobat

I have the same issue. Preview opens PDFs easily thought, no errors. What is the problem?

I have the same problem. Everything worked fine yesterday. But today, the document that I am exporting from Figma does not open not only in Adobe Acrobat, but also in Illustrator too. Everything is displayed normally in the browser and from the phone. I read the solution above and don’t quite understand what needs to be done. Open it in a browser and save it from there? But there is no “Create PDF/A” option. Where should I choose it?

Unfortunately I do not have Adobe software on my Mac, so I am unable to test the suggested solution.

However, upon opening a PDF in Preview and selecting [File] > [Export…], a modal appears with the “Create PDF/A” option.
