Variant interactions (i.e. hover, active, etc.) stop working when adding an overlay interaction to a dropdown menu component

I am trying to use one of our components (a dropdown menu button) in a prototype. I want the dropdown menu button to open a dropdown list when clicked, but also to move between hover, active, and idle states as the user interacts with it. I can get the hover, active, and idle states to work in my prototype by applying prototyping connections between each variant of the component, but as soon as I add the on click > open overlay action to the button all the variant states stop working in my prototype. I’m thinking maybe the variant actions are conflicting with the prototyping actions, but if that is the case, I’d recommend Figma allows more than one “on click” action for a component when prototyping.
