I work on a product that has a sound library that plays during specific interactions. I built a component with embeded mp4s that had audio in them so people could include sound in their prototypes to better mimic the product experience. I had it all set up and working for me locally at the end of my day today and shared it with my collegues only to get notes that no one could hear it. When I went back a few hours later to double check I found that it no longer worked for me.
I checked the history and nothing changed between my work and when I checked back later. What changed? Did Figma re-encode my files, break my project, and REMOVE the sound?
Thanks for reaching out. It’s unusual that you lost your audio. I tested it on my end and couldn’t replicate the issue. It also seems to be happening on the file level. Could you please contact the support team directly with a copy of your file using this link: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?
Please make sure to use the email associated with your Figma account, include links to the file in question, and share access with support-share@figma.com. Don’t worry, inviting us to view your file won’t affect your billing.
Following up because I figured out what happened. If the opacity of an object that has sound attached to it is anything less than 100% sound gets disabled. I was conflating a previous issue I had (where a transparent webm got re-encoded and the transparency removed) With what was going on here assuming that anything I uploaded was getting re-encoded.
It’s not ideal to have to keep rendered videos opaque but I have gotten used to just hiding them at the back of my frames.
