WebP support for animated prototyping and export

goto image format for the web. Definitely implement. Don’t screw plugin creators, implement one of their features with compensation.

Come on Figma. It is 2024 and still is webp not available.

It has much better compression than jpg/png and it is well supported by all modern browsers.

Is there any reason this was closed? I would LOVE this. Animated gifs are the only other way I currently know to have animations with transparency in a prototype. Lottie can’t play in prototypes, and .webm is the only format I know of that will do transparency, and I haven’t found a smooth/easy way to make a .webm from After effects or any other tool

H265 in MP4 supports alpha channels (i.e. transparency). VP9 and AV1 do as well same with .mov. It’s been a while since I tried it, so give it a shot and let us know if it works 😊.

Yes, since WebP has quickly become the choice for lightweight images, it only makes sense to include this as one of the options.

Is there any update on this, or is the entire Figma staff now just working on AI?

What’s the update on this? It’s open source, so it can’t be a licensing issue with Google.

Figma, what gives? I understand there are other features, but the idea that export to the leading image format, webP, hasn’t been baked into Figma is ludicrous.
