Variables: Color alias with alpha / opacity (rgba ideally)

Since Material2 it's been common to use opacity rather than unique colors, but it's still not supported in Figma variables without disconnecting the parent color, to stop needing painfull workarounds.

In code it often looks like this destructive/50 = 50% of $destructive

  1. I want to variable opacity without unlinking the parent color.

  2. I want opacity control in the UI for the linked color, like code.

It would be insanity to bloat the variable collection with something that can be done simply on the dev side. +1

+11111 Opacity is a *core attribute of design*. Absolutely core. You’ve had two years+ to make it a valid variable target.

Adobe, why is opacity still not a variable?
You’ve got the funds. You’ve got the talent. If you lack clarity and direction, hire me. I know how to put UX first. You, apparently, do not. Let’s do this. Let’s get ‘er done.
