This feature enables users to directly extract and copy text from images (JPEG, PNG, etc.) within Figma. It utilizes Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to recognize and convert text within an image into editable text layers. This functionality enhances productivity by allowing designers to quickly integrate text data from visual assets without manual transcription.

Use Cases:

  1. Efficient Workflow: Designers can seamlessly transfer text from mood boards, screenshots, and scanned documents into their designs.

  2. Accessibility Improvement: Extracting text from images and converting it into editable formats can help improve the accessibility of documents by allowing for easy adjustments to text size, color, and font, making it more readable.

  3. Error Reduction: Reduces transcription errors and saves time by automating the text digitization process.

Implementation Suggestion:

  • Integrate an OCR button within the image toolbar in Figma.

  • Once an image is selected, users can click this button to initiate text recognition.

  • Text is then presented as selectable, editable layers that can be styled, moved, or otherwise manipulated as regular text objects within Figma.

This feature would particularly benefit teams who work extensively with graphical content containing text, ensuring their workflows are more integrated and streamlined.

Hey @AADITH_V_A, thanks for the feedback!

We’ll pass this along to the team for future consideration.

I am surprised this is basically buried among other suggestions. While there is a functional plugin, having native solution that was working better would be nice.

This happens all the time in larger companies, you often get sources as screencaps, often without any possibility to access the actual screens.
