"Sort by" does not retain the selection.

Every time I exit Figma and come back, the previously selected sort order is lost, and it defaults to "Last modified" – "Newest first". Previously, the selected sorting option was always preserved.

Hey both. Wanted to let you know that this was an intentional change on our end. From what I understand, the only page that doesn't reset preferences is the "Last projects" page now.

For more context: this was implemented after feedback from users who thought their files were missing due to filters or sort orders being enabled.

I know this was probably not the answer you wanted to hear, and I completely get why this would be a negative change to your existing workflow. I’m making sure that your opinions and feedback on this are also highlighted as well. We do take into consideration every use case, and want to be sure that changes we make benefit everyone who uses Figma.

Apologies that I can’t offer an alternative solution at this time.

If I misunderstood what your issues were, let me know. I’ll keep this open for now to get any other feedback on this you may have,

This is so basic. I can’t believe that this has not been fixed, even though users have been asking for it for over a year. It’s such bad UX.

+1. Sort order should be retained, either per folder or across folders per user… but definitely not reset every time you navigate away. 😩

You are not the only one experiencing this. Figma currently resets the sort order to “Last modified → Newest first” in many folder/project views instead of remembering your previous choice. Figma users have been reporting this issue and Figma has acknowledged that the current behavior is intentional.

Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a setting to permanently change the default right now. You will have to reselect your preferred sorting option each time. Hopefully Figma brings back persistent sorting soon it is definitely frustrating.

I’m brand new to Figma and I’m here rather soon in my Figma journey because of this absurd “it’s not a bug and, despite being a commonly expected user interaction feature, it has been intentionally removed due to a minority of whiny dimwits.” Maintaining the selected sort setting is a basic, naturally expected feature. It is so much relied upon that it could be referred to as a simplistically emotionally satisfying base control when repeatedly revisiting a list page. Do you have statistics on how many times users are reselecting the folder sort select menu? That would be a telling figure to collect for your own UX designers.

Secondly, why is there no dislike button option here in the forum? This customer service response includes a provocatively useless apology for Figma’s bad usability design and thus, it deserves a one-click dislike interaction. I appreciate that you did explain Figma’s confounding corporate decision. However, instead of Figma allowing me to provide a boolean negative feedback via the presentation of a simple dislike button, I’m having to write this response to communicate my dislike. Figma corp says: “Oh, let’s make sure that we can easily disregard our customer users’ negative feedback by not offering a forum dislike button.” I wouldn’t so much care about this dislike button if I weren’t so torqued-up by the lack of saving my Figma folder sort selection. This episode in my Figma journey is doubly frustrating.
