It would be really nice if I could just search the version history to find specific saves, instead of having to scroll through the entire list. This becomes especially annoying if I have a lot of versions saved and am searching for a very old one.

Search / Filters that would be nice:

  • text search
  • date filter
  • creator filter

I’d like to jump back to a version of the file from 2 months ago. Currently I have to keep clicking “Show older” in version history until I traverse to the time I want.

Feels like a search (to search by version name/description) and a date filter for version history is a no-brainer feature. It would save so much time and effort especially when working on large files for long-term projects. Dear team Figma, kindly add this feature 🙏

Every topic on this feature seems to be closed without much votes. My heart hurts :') Dear designers, please vote on this topic so it becomes visible to the Figma team.

+1 stashing discovery work after i am done and then trying to find it again when the capability is to be extended later is a pain. currently it is easier to go into jira and find the initial user story and the link to the Figma branch when it could be so easy to just search it within Figma version history 🤦‍♂️

I can’t believe this isn’t a thing! I’m trying to find some concepts from a year ago! Clicking ‘Show older’ numerous times is crazy. Filter by date! come on!

We really need this feature, either in version control or branch history. Our product team members use archived branches to understand previous versions of our app.

Bumping this. It shouldn’t be that hard to add a global filter/sort setting for months or authors.

Would love to be able to search a file’s Version history! Filtering by Page in the file would be the cherry on top, too.

Recently, I wanted to go further back in a file history but had to click “Show older’ over and over again. Being able to jump to a specific date would save me some time and clicks 🙂

If a version can be named, a name search functionality would be helpful to go back to a particular version in the history. Without a search, users have to scroll and click "Show older" to see all past versions. I believe when the search is built, more people will name the version better to assist search e.g. put in Jira ticket label in the version name.

I totally agree. Being able to search and filter version history would make managing saves much easier. A text search could help you quickly locate specific changes, while a date filter would let you narrow down to the time period you need. A creator filter would also be really useful in collaborative projects to see who made each version. These features would save a lot of time and frustration compared to scrolling through long lists of versions.

There might be two possible workarounds:

It would also be practical/useful to have access to different levels of history viewing, especially when dealing with files that are old (more than a year). For example, a view by month, in addition to a more detailed view (the current view). This would be more practical to be able to go back in the history (which can sometimes contain a lot of elements, which makes searching for a very old version quite tedious.
