[LAUNCHED] All plans should offer more than 4 variable modes

It would be great if the professional plan offered more than 4 variable modes. Right now I want to set up a mode for each component size-- XS - XL, 5 sizes all together-- which puts me over the 4 limit for pro, but well under the 40 limit for enterprise, which is a quantity I will never need. And there’s no use case for enterprise at all for a team our size.

I think 10-12 modes for pro would be perfect to give small teams like mine room to grow before we reach the scale where an enterprise plan would be worth consideration.

    Pro → 10
    Org → 20

    I want to thank everyone who posted in this thread - we used a lot of the responses here to inform the mode increase decision. Happy theme swapping y’all :)

    Comming soon, more modes to you? A simple website at least has 5 breakpoints, who on earth though 4 would be enough. this is a kick in the face. The next tier to unlock more modes in Enterprise. I’m a single Dev/Design. Locking those features in an enterprise level subscription is Adobe territory shenanigans.

      Adding myself here. We need to have more than 4 modes for 2 specific projects only but it doesn’t makes any sense for our team to go into an Organization plan as we won’t use any of the other features but just having more modes. It definitely doesn’t justify the extreme price increase on all seat types.

      I wasn’t aware of such limitation until I tried to create a 5th mode on one of our shared design systems for a project, and it’s now being huge a blocker for us.

      I don’t see a reason why such a feature would need to raise the price as much, given (and this is only my assumption) the impact is just storing a few more lines on a database per project, which is quite light (if not barely noticeable) in terms of costs for the product.


      Well it was never about storage in the first place. We have the ability to create unlimited design files, so it is not a storage issue. Plain and simple, it‘s artificial segmentation, greedy business practics.

            Modes help us design faster in Figma.

            Finally! After so many years of repeating tasks.
            Responsive font sizes. Dark-Mode. You name it.

            I really like to work with «color modes» (Themes) where I set a color mode in a section to give it, it’s styling. But the limitation to four modes is arbitrary. It favors design-techniques only to large companies over simplicity for everyone.

            I have so many clients who don’t need an enterprise plan but my design for their dev team. And with a little knowledge of variables and code (do you know excel?) I ask myself… Is this limitation set by the Figma sales team?

            Dear Figma – Support designers. Let us work better together with developers and enhance overall speed and design quality!
             

            Drop that limitation. Please.

              Aprils update would have been a really amazing update, BUT IS SUCKED because it didn’t fix this HUGE PROBLEM. Why bother adding interesting and cool features, if you still have this huge breaking workflow. I would love to add more dev accounts, more collab accounts. But I CAN’T because I spend so much time hacking modes and looking for alternative software.

                Penpot just released Tokens and unlimited Variable Modes.

                  Exciting. Token’s are hugely important to design at my company. Guess I’ll be testing out Penpot in the upcoming weeks.

                    The limit to 4 modes really is a huge problem. Figma please at least change this in the organization plan, it really makes no sense..

                      Please increase the limit of only 4 modes. As a paying customer, I would like to be able to work productively with modes. The current work-arounds (several files, plugins etc.) hardly allow for a professional design system. If variables are to be used, more than 4 modes must be possible.
