Question

File sorting (Alphabetical/Date Created/Last Modified) choice should be persisent and remembered

Figma has stopped remembering the file sorting preference: It now always defaults to ‘Last Modified’ at the beginning of session, no matter what your choice was. Can we have it back?

This is now default at the beginning of every session

I am these days having to open this dropdown ‘Sort By’ → Alphabetical 30 times a day. Last modified does not work for us since it shows us whole new set of files every time because how many people work and edit files daily; Alphabetical works better for us since we use numerical naming and then every file is correctly displayed in the intended order of product importance (home, registration, features, etc)

As April 22, 2025, this seems to have been fixed, at least in the web browser version.

Yesterday I changed it to Created, then quit and restart Figma and it may have fixed it. They did also push an update shortly after. Seems okay for now.

I still have this problem with Figma Desktop App version 125.10.8

Same thing in the browser version of Figma.

Drives me crazy and needs to be fixed soon!

The bug was gone after an update long ago, but now it has crept back in again sadly...

Hi @zachs , @Andreas_Schrader , yes, I concur. The issue is back.

David Giménez

I’m getting crazy with it.
I ONLY use/need “alphabetical”, and now is always “last modified”, always, everywhere 😨😭

Hopefully they will fix it again SOON!

@David Giménez , time to repost on Reddit. Last time I did, they fixed it within days. They have employees watching the sub, so that works.

I also have this issue. I know it’s seemingly a small thing but I have to do it every time I am looking for a project. Laptop restart didn’t work; Figma restart didn’t work.

@Paweł Drętkiewicz, this issue appeared 8 months ago, I made a reddit post explaining the issue, and they fixed it within days. Sadly, it’s back. The thing has returned to Derry, and I’m calling y’all.

Thanks so much for that solution, but I never used Reddit 😅🤷
If this is the “Figma forum” where to write the Figma issues. This would have to be the only place where to write them, no?

@David Giménez , It used to be labelled as ‘the frontpage of the Internet’ for a reason :P now there’s a lot of bots, but for niche communities, is a great place to hang. ‘there’s a subreddit for that’. https://www.reddit.com/r/FigmaDesign/

We’ve seen Figma Employees in that subreddit reading and answering users posts as well. This board is a nagging board and is full of users just doing that, but the sub is sometimes where you learn new stuff, or get a hold of creative stuff the community is doing, or eternally answering ‘what’s the best plugin to make my design a real website or app’ over and over again /s

I used it once to tell those figma employees about this and lo and behold, it worked? I don’t know if it was a coincidence or what, but never the less, I just posted today almost the same post as last time. Hoping they’ll fit it soon!

Yep, this is happening to me again like it was 8 months ago. I always want to sort by Date Created and keep it that way. But now it keeps clicking back to Last Modified. So annoying.
