File sorting (Alphabetical/Date Created/Last Modified) choice should be persisent and remembered

Yes, this is driving me insane as well 😅

As April 22, 2025, this seems to have been fixed, at least in the web browser version.

Yesterday I changed it to Created, then quit and restart Figma and it may have fixed it. They did also push an update shortly after. Seems okay for now.

I still have this problem with Figma Desktop App version 125.10.8

Same thing in the browser version of Figma.

Drives me crazy and needs to be fixed soon!

Every time I restart Figma, it reverts to sorting by last modified. And I need to reselect Alphabetical Z-A
 

Bad UX. Save my setting.

The bug was gone after an update long ago, but now it has crept back in again sadly...

I’m getting crazy with it. 
I ONLY use/need “alphabetical”, and now is always “last modified”, always, everywhere 😨😭

Hopefully they will fix it again SOON!

​@David Giménez , time to repost on Reddit. Last time I did, they fixed it within days. They have employees watching the sub, so that works. 

I also have this issue. I know it’s seemingly a small thing but I have to do it every time I am looking for a project. Laptop restart didn’t work; Figma restart didn’t work. 

​@Paweł Drętkiewicz, this issue appeared 8 months ago, I made a reddit post explaining the issue, and they fixed it within days. Sadly, it’s back. The thing has returned to Derry, and I’m calling y’all.

If this is the “Figma forum” where to write the Figma issues. This would have to be the only place where to write them, no?

​@David Giménez , It used to be labelled as ‘the frontpage of the Internet’ for a reason :P now there’s a lot of bots, but for niche communities, is a great place to hang. ‘there’s a subreddit for that’. https://www.reddit.com/r/FigmaDesign/

We’ve seen Figma Employees in that subreddit reading and answering users posts as well. This board is a nagging board and is full of users just doing that, but the sub is sometimes where you learn new stuff, or get a hold of creative stuff the community is doing, or eternally answering ‘what’s the best plugin to make my design a real website or app’ over and over again /s 

I used it once to tell those figma employees about this and lo and behold, it worked? I don’t know if it was a coincidence or what, but never the less, I just posted today almost the same post as last time. Hoping they’ll fit it soon!

Yep, this is happening to me again like it was 8 months ago. I always want to sort by Date Created and keep it that way. But now it keeps clicking back to Last Modified. So annoying.

Hi all! I'm a PM at Figma. Thanks for the feedback - we recently made an update so sorting resets to the default, which reflects the original behavior for this experience.

We recognize that Figma supports many different workflows, and this change won’t fit every use case. We’re taking this feedback into account as we continue improving the file browser.

+1 for this. Default sorting to last modified is not helpful. This setting needs to be maintained throughtout the application. I want to see my folders and files in the same order every time, not wonder where they are because the sorting changed.

Please fix this, it is an unnecessary waste of time and energy when searching for files every single time.

+1 This needs to be fixed. It used to work properly. Now I have to click it several times a day! Why are you making me do this?

Dear Figma Team

When I set sorting to Alphabetical in Drafts, it works correctly.
However, when I navigate to another page (for example: Projects or Recents) and then return to Drafts, the sorting automatically resets to Last modified.

Expected behavior:
The selected sorting option (Alphabetical) should remain persistent across navigation and sessions.

Current behavior:
Sorting preference resets to “Last modified” after switching views or refreshing.

Oh noble team at Figma fair,

Within your tidy Projects lair,

I sort A–Z with careful click,

A simple choice, precise and quick.

But when I leave and then return,

My chosen order starts to burn—

For lo, it’s flipped without consent

To “Last Modified” — heaven-sent?

I crave consistency, not surprise;

Let alphabetic order rise.

Pray save my sort, I humbly plead—

And calm this mildly maddening need.

We really need a fix for this bug!

Still waiting for a fix, a year later. 

Hey Figma, please fix this basic high volume behavior. It’s a drag on workflows every day.
