Question

Allow us to expose Annotations and Measurements to View Seat users.

Hi,

The addition of annotations and measurements to Design mode is such a great decision.

However this is rendered almost useless if the annotations and measurements can’t be made visible to View Seat users.

Often annotations are used for communication with a range of stakeholders, not just designers and developers. It’s not viable to upgrade every stakeholder to a Full or Dev seat to engage with this content.

Key points -- is before devs ever get this Product Owners need to make sure the correct info is visible for Developers so they can write their stories and QA can test to make sure it is done.

Clients and consultants don’t always have the means to buy licenses to these products.

Comments are to easily removed or MOVED so they are not attached to the component that requires annotation.

Please enable annotation visibility for Viewers. A secondary options is allow Collaborators to see Figma Annotations.

I agree also many of our testers can’t see annotations made by us designer and sometimes lines are blurred from the intent … and even they have to ask people with dev accounts to see notes…

I have to rely making a note on the side of my frame and make a component in order so every one can see the notes which is quite annoying

Please can this be enabled for all, we have many people in our organisation that need to look at designs and only have View access. The annotations are super useful to link to elements, share notes/links to user stories and tag future enhancements for teams.

Should’ve been viewable for all from the start.

Please, please, please. Annotations is such a great feature, but I can’t fully implement and use it when my viewers (stakeholders, PMs, backend developers who don’t do frontend work, etc) can’t view them. I end up having to not use this tool at all and spend pointless time designing annotations/documentation in my Figma files through other means, because comments are too cluttered and often get ignored.

It’s absurd that this doesn’t work as it should: annotations that are seen in the design. For everyone to see. Heck, it would have been great if we had also a feature to hide specific types of annotations for some type of viewers or something, but not this!

My company works with external developers that don’t need dev mode nor figma at all. They’re not ever going to pay for figma, so if this is a strategy to fish more subs, it won’t work. I give them the design and that’s it. My annotations are needed every day to keep the devs updated, and so far I’ve had to use plugins to add annotations. I was really hyped about this feature and filled my new designs with them… just to realize in the middle of a presentation that the devs haven’t been receiving this annotations in the past few WEEKS.

Please give us an update about this feature. If you’re not going to implement this change at least notify us so we can start using the old plugins again, because this is making us lose time and money.

Can’t agree more with all previous comments. Native annotations are practically useless is they are invisible to non-design seats. Restricting the creation/editing to full seats makes sense, but THEY MUST be visible to ALL Figma users.

Thank you.

Annotations need to be visible by everyone. Seems like a cash grab from Figma to require everyone to upgrade to a paid account.

I love annotations. Annotations are great as they dont get in the way of the design like comment does. But I learnt midway through a project that majority of the stakeholders whom the annotations are targeted at couldn’t see the annotations 😡 😩

Let everyone VIEW annotations at least.

I just ran into the same problem with my customer, very annoying and not good for business.

Dev mode has more features that make it worth paying for (for devs, not PMs etc.!).

Annotations should be visible to viewing stakeholders, just like comments. The connected properties are not even necessary and maybe we could even distinguish between annotations relevant for Viewers and Developers with the categories.
