Please also expose them in the RestAPI in addition to the Plugin API!

This is a terrible misstep for Figma to hide the annotation / comment functionality that makes a the content viewable. Annotations are not only for developers but also other designers and viewers to understand how a design will work.

If this is bait for business reasons to get more subscribers, then designers will find their own work arounds. Too bad they put out such a great feature only to hide it from viewers. It’s very disappointing and should be added back into the View mode.

Great suggestion — giving View-seat users access to annotations and measurements in Figma would significantly improve visibility for non-editor stakeholders. It makes design intent clearer, streamlines collaboration, and ensures everyone sees important context without needing full editing access.

Please Figma, follow users need and add this feature!

I didn’t realize that the annotations weren’t available for collaborators/viewers until someone asked me to add annotations to designs I’d already annotated. At the very minimum, I think it should be clear who can see these annotations in-situ. Realistically, these should be visible to anyone viewing the file, or else they’re pretty useless.

Time to go re-annotate a bunch of designs 😪

Please don't turn into Adobe/Microsoft and make simple features like this accessible for all team members.

I’m having to annotate twice at the moment, it’s such a time sink.

+1 Please update this.

We just realised that half the team couldn't see these annotations and it really makes the feature much less useful than it should be. The pricing model and seats are already vague and have arbitrary windows where you’re able to update them - we really don’t need the added cognitive load of having to check which basic features are or aren't available based on what seat you hold.

I was genuinely excited about the annotations feature and just naively assumed it would be visible regardless of seat type - because why wouldn’t it be?

Ridiculous paywall.

Come on, Figma. This needs to be treated just like comments.

From business and pricing perspective I understand why you want to put measurements behind a paid seat. But annotations are incredibly useful to hand over designs for stakeholders or marketing people. Giving context for the design is crucial and using a native method much better rather than drawing notes manually and point them with vectors. I think this form of communication and contextualization is much more demanded when designers hand over for non-figma users or a less skilled person who’ll only comment and make decision based what they see.

Hard take but the annotations should be visible even without logging in.

We often share designs with our clients and giving them paid seat every time is not a good idea.

Key points -- is before devs ever get this Product Owners need to make sure the correct info is visible for Developers so they can write their stories and QA can test to make sure it is done.

Clients and consultants don’t always have the means to buy licenses to these products.

Comments are to easily removed or MOVED so they are not attached to the component that requires annotation.

Please enable annotation visibility for Viewers. A secondary options is allow Collaborators to see Figma Annotations.

I agree also many of our testers can’t see annotations made by us designer and sometimes lines are blurred from the intent … and even they have to ask people with dev accounts to see notes…

I have to rely making a note on the side of my frame and make a component in order so every one can see the notes which is quite annoying
