Unclear Figma billing practices

Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

I would like to understand why Figma is using such a sophisticated, misleading, simply a sharp practice of billing their services?

I am a freelance start-up that has been charged for 8 other people accessing the file I have created. I have allowed access only for two of them and they shared further (probably) and I have been charged an additional $120 for their access.

I was never alerted to the fact that apart from the monthly subscription, there will be additional charges.

I don’t want to be a part of a service that is so wishy-washy in their billing offer. It is a disgusting practice. Probably I will look for alternatives to this service.

    I have a question regarding the billing of seats in drafts tho. I’ve added a friend of mine as an editor in a draft my team (professional) expecting to see him show up in the members tab for the billing

    Keep in mind that he has been added through the share option of the drafts file, and not through the team but has requested editor access and I’ve granted it.

    Nothing appeared in the members/billing tab, not even a seat or anything else (a day has passed). Now I have no clue if I will be billed or not (and I assume I will) for the extra editor seat. The problem is that this is nowhere to be seen and the only way I have to know that my friend has a paid seat is looking through the share settings of the single file (he has dev access for example for which he didn’t pay for). What happens if I forget? Will I be billed indefinitely because of your shady way of hiding billing details? Could you please clarify that?

    It’s ridiculous that Figma charges extra if a user with a professional license invites another user (also with a professional license) to collaborate on a project. This goes against one of their core values that the product is supposed to enhance collaboration.

    I am actually considering moving over to Sketch because of this awful billing practive.

    YES - same. This is an incredibly awful billing practice, and extremely anti-collaboration.

    What is this kind of scam?!?! I just realized I’ve been charged 16 seats, instead of just one account. That’s 15 unsolicited extra seats I’ve been paying without consent, adding up to $1,795.10 usd in the last 12 months. That’s outrageous!!! I’m going to get fired for this! I can’t believe how unethical this is!!!

      Agreed. The experience is unclear and makes people prone to getting unvoluntarily charged.

      Figma’s billing can feel like a maze sometimes, especially when it auto-adds "Editors" without a clear heads-up. A good tip is to regularly check your Members tab and switch everyone to "Viewer-restricted" by default. It stops those surprise charges when someone accidentally clicks an edit button. Also, if you’re managing a lot of PDF exports or documentation from Figma and find that certain pages are bloating the file (which can lead to more workspace clutter), I’ve actually used thetoolapp.com/delete-specific-pages to just strip out the junk before sharing it with clients. It helps keep the file sizes down so you aren't constantly bumping into plan limits.
