However, I also tried placing the video as its own separate layer/object inside the frame, and the result is the same: the video still does not play. Video fills now progresses during exports, but are not previewable in the canvas timeline

Thanks for your reply, @Jeremy.within - stepping in for @Celyn_L and @Jaycee Lewis.

Just to clarify, you are saying that the video within the export now plays, but it still does not play on the canvas? This is expected behavior for a video fill or layer as far as the canvas is concerned - hopefully that’s not too confusing. Let me know if you were expecting it to play somewhere else and I’ll get clarification. Thanks!

@adamsmasher I think that is a pretty confusing discrepancy. When you play in the Figma motion timeline, you would expect it to look the same as in the final export. If video fills play in the export but not the Figma motion timeline it will be very difficult to fine-tune the correct animation timings.

Overall it would be extremely helpful to have full control of video assets (trimming, moving in and out times, retiming etc…) within the Figma motion timeline

I hear you, @Jeremy.within. Years ago I used to do animations in Flash, and sometimes the frame rate within the app would not align with the export. It made syncing audio really challenging, not to mention the timing more broadly. I shared your feedback with the team for review!

Thanks for the detailed update. It’s helpful to know that the export issue has been fixed while video fills still don’t preview in the canvas timeline, because that difference can make timing animations harder to fine-tune. I’ve also been working with video workflows outside Figma, including SaveVidClips for supported Kuaishou and Kwai videos.
