It's the same for me! And you can no longer adjust the column width manually.

Logged in this morning to find the variables are split with the ‘edit variable’ now appearing under the variable info. I’m on a 27” screen with only one mode.

I’m guessing this is a bug rather than update.

Hey everyone! Celine from the Figma Community Support team here. Thanks for taking the time to flag this and report the issue.

I was able to reproduce the behavior on my end and have raised it internally with our Engineering team for investigation.

We'll share an update here as soon as we have more information to pass along. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention!

Nishchay Makkar

The Variables panel is rendering incorrectly with large blank gaps between variable rows.

I've verified the following:

  • Happens in every Figma file, including new files.
  • Affects all variable collections.
  • Reproduces in the Figma Desktop app.
  • Reproduces in Chrome, Brave, and Firefox.
  • Persists after restarting Figma.
  • Persists regardless of browser zoom or Windows display scaling.

The issue makes the Variables panel difficult to use because the spacing between rows is inconsistent and much larger than expected.

I've attached a screenshot showing the issue.

I’m not sure if this is an intentional update or a bug, but the Variables panel now displays items in two rows instead of a single continuous list. This makes it much harder to quickly visualise and compare all variables within a collection at once, especially for larger collections.

Since very recently variables on the variables panel use 2 rows instead of one. It seems it’s an UI bug. The settings icon breaks to another like so everything takes double space.

Same issue on macOS 26 / beta 27

in Figma desktop app: 126.6.14

In Chrome beta 151.0.7922.19

Spotted the problem today

Same issue. Found today. Super uncomformable and problematic to use. In my case columns aren’t resizable, so string variables (especially with long names) are hard to view.

The new variable list layout - it’s a bug, right??  Something like this can’t be on purpose...😨  Please restore the normal list view🙏🏻

Having the same issue, started today. Would be great to resolve. It looks like it’s the ‘edit variable’ button that got pushed down and it now takes the whole row. Surely UI bug? Thanks!

James_van_Rossum

The new layout in the Beta version of Figma has a spacing row between each variable which only has the “configuration” control within it for the row above. This makes viewing variables very painful as they are now so spread vertically and you can only fit half as many items on the page.

Came to confirm that it was a known bug and not just a glitch on my side. Surprisingly hard to use event though you wouldn't think it were an issue. Seems fixed now.

Hey again everyone! Thanks again for your patience while the team investigated this.

Our Engineering team has now rolled out a fix for the issue.

Could you please let us know if the Variables panel is now loading as expected after performing a full refresh of Figma? Thank you!
