Hey everyone,

I updated Figma this morning and everything was working fine for a few hours, then suddenly it just stopped letting me select anything. I can’t click on objects, frames, or even use the hand tool to pan around. It’s like the whole canvas becomes unresponsive.

At first I thought it was just a glitch - I restarted my Mac and that seemed to fix it temporarily. But it’s happened again, and this time restarting or reloading Figma doesn’t help at all. I even tried switching from my pen tablet to a mouse in case it was a hardware issue, but the problem persists.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Restarted the Figma app

  • Reloaded the file

  • Restarted my Mac (temporary fix)

  • Switched input devices (pen tablet → mouse)

Nothing seems to work, and I’m basically stuck - can’t select, move, or pan anything.

System:

  • macOS 26.0.1

  • Apple M1 Ultra

  • Figma desktop app (latest version, updated today)

This is extremely frustrating and blocking my work - has anyone else run into this? Any suggestions or workarounds would be massively appreciated.

Update: the issue persists on the web version and using a personal account.

Hey @ru.au, welcome to Figma Forum, and thanks for flagging. Sorry you’re running into this — it definitely shouldn’t be happening. I tested on a Mac and was able to select frames and objects as expected (using both the browser and desktop app), so it sounds like something potentially more specific to your setup.

Really appreciate how clearly you laid out the troubleshooting steps you’ve already tried — it’s interesting that restarting helps temporarily before things start freezing again.

To help narrow things down a bit more, could you confirm a few details?

  • Are you still seeing this both in the Figma Desktop App and browser?
  • Which browser are you using? (You can double-check that it’s supported here: What are the system requirements for Figma?)
  • What version of the Figma Desktop App are you running? Please make sure it’s 125.8.9 or later.
  • Any browser extensions or background programs that might affect performance?
  • Does it happen in all files, or only after interacting with certain components or frames?

If the behavior continues, our Technical Quality team can take a closer look. You can start that process by filling out this form and including:

  • the link to this Forum thread for context
  • a link to a file(s) where this is happening
  • Can edit access granted to support-share@figma.com
  • a quick screen recording showing the behavior.

Thank you again for the thoughtful report and patience as we help get things running smoothly again.
