Spacebar panning glitch in Figma

YPM

I have been experiencing unusual behavior in Figma for several days. When I use Spacebar + mouse to pan, the canvas moves unpredictably in different directions while the spacebar is pressed. Refreshing Figma temporarily resolves the issue, but the glitch reoccurs frequently. I am using Figma Web.

Hey @YPM, thanks for flagging this!

To help us troubleshoot the issue, can you answer a few things for us?

  • Is this also happening in the desktop app?
  • What is the browser you're using? Can you please try a different browser and see if it helps? Our supported browsers are Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge
  • Is this happening on any specific file or all files?
  • Can you please send us a screen recording capturing the issue including the steps you took to reproduce the issue?
  • Are you on Mac or Windows?
  • Is this issue specific to Figma design or FigJam as well?
  • Are you encountering this issue only when you use Spacebar + mouse or do you have the same issue using the trackpad from the laptop as well?

Thank you for your help!

Facing the same issue on Figma App - Desktop (win 11)

He @Sarang Atre! Since you’re seeing this in the desktop app on Windows 11, one thing to try first is uninstalling and reinstalling Figma to see if that clears it up.

To help us narrow this down further, could you also let us know a bit more?

  • Does the same issue happen if you use Figma in a browser? (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox)

  • Is this occurring in one specific file, or across all files?

  • Are you seeing this in Figma Design, FigJam, or both?

  • Does it only happen when using Spacebar + mouse, or does it also occur with a laptop trackpad?

  • If possible, a short screen recording showing the issue and the steps to reproduce it would be really helpful.

Once we have this info, I can get you connected with our technical quality team to investigate this further!

Same issue and following Apple M1- Mac OS Sequoia 15.5. started happening after the last update

Oleg Serediuc

Same issue on an Figma Desktop, on M3 Pro running Sequoia 15.7.3. It happened before, then disappeared after an update, and now it’s back.

Behavior: when I press Space + mouse click and drag, the canvas moves as expected at first. But as soon as I release the mouse click while still holding Space, the canvas continues moving on its own.

Same issue. Really erratic behaviour in navigating figma boards making it quite difficult to operate.

  • So far on desktop - will try on browser and update
  • Happening across files
  • Working in figma design
  • spacebar and mouse for me

Hard to take a video as it is erratic but it has been happening intermittently and often for about 3 weeks now.

Also seemingly after the last update.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but same problem.

Fix would be super appreciated. Thanks

Yeah can someone from Figma address this? This happens ALL the time for me in the Figma Desktop-app (Mac/Beta).

Hey @Bronwyn1, thanks for sharing those details! I’ve gone ahead and created a support ticket on your behalf so our team can properly investigate this. Your ticket number is #1743808, for reference.

When you get a chance, could you download your Figma Desktop debug logs and attach them to the ticket? That will give the team more visibility into what’s causing this.

Appreciate your patience in the meantime!

Hey @pear, I can create a support ticket for you as well so we can investigate properly. Before I do, could you help me narrow it down a bit:

  • Does this also happen in the browser version, or only in the Desktop (Beta) app?

  • Is it happening across all files or only certain ones?

  • Is this in Figma Design only, or are you seeing it in FigJam too?

  • Is this issue specific to Figma design or FigJam as well? Are you encountering this issue only when you use Spacebar + mouse or do you have the same issue using the trackpad from the laptop as well?

Thank you!

Hey @Gayani_S , no this is not the browser version this happens in - only Desktop/Mac (Beta).

All files.

I believe it’s only Figma Design this happens in, at least far as I noticed.

Only using Spacebar + mouse. This happens rarely, occasionally. I can not connect the dots in where and why it happens. I’m using a Magic Trackpad next to my computer also, which suffers the same issue. I’ve not tried a regular mouse, but Macbook built in trackpad + magic trackpad suffers with this error together with spacebar.

Happens to me too, desktop, Windows 11. Keyboard and mouse. Very annoying.

Also when it happens, it also causes another glitch. When I hold space + direction (like up arrow), the object goes diagonal..

(Win 11, desktop app)

Same issue here. It’s not always present, but it does happen often.

Also, as soon as I came in here to complain about it, it stopped happening… My issue only happens when holding space to pan, but before I can click and drag to pan the canvas pans automatically and quickly in a random direction.

I have not found the cause yet, nor what determines the direction the pan goes when holding spacebar. It doesn’t seem to be random though. The direction will continue the same way for each “bug session”. When it comes back it has usually switched directions.

EDIT…
I found out that switching programs removes the bug, which explains why I wasn’t able to replicate it after coming to this forum since I clicked into Chrome. I’ve tested this 3 different times its happened in the last hour and this seems to fix it temporarily. When I went to record it the last time, I opened OBS then went back to Figma and the bug was gone.

Same issue, very annoying.

Only “solution” so far is closing the app and opening again, it goes away.

But then it reappears after a while.

Never had this problem in past versions.

Also to add to OP - no need to move the mouse. I can only press space and hold and it starts moving the screen position by itself.

Hi everyone, thank you all for taking the time to share details!

The team asked for the following info to investigate this further:

  • Are you using any special tools to manage your workspaces (like window managers)?

  • Do you have any non-standard keyboard shortcuts?

  • Are you working with multiple monitors?

  • Are you using a mouse, trackpad, drawing tablet, or switching between them?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Jordan_Gardiner
  • No
  • No
  • I have two monitors, but Figma is only open in one.
  • Mouse

Same happening to me for over a month now on the Figma desktop app for Mac (iMac M1, Tahoe 26.1). Pressing the spacebar on the mac wireless keyboard to pan with my Wacom pen causes the the field of view to pan abruptly/quickly (even when not moving pen and/or trackpad).

I noticed the same pattern of irregular scrolling behaviour in the right menu of the UI interface — while in the colour palette if I press the spacebar it scrolls all the way to the bottom of the list of swatches.

  • Not using any special tools to manage workspaces
  • No custom keyboard shortcuts set
  • Native iMac monitor only
  • No mouse, using a mac trackpad along with a Wacom (S) 2025 pen tablet

Same over here for a month or so on Figma desktop app for Mac:

  • No
  • No
  • Extra monitor on my MacBook Air
  • Mouse

The suggestions of Zach_Ward2 (switching programs removes the bug) helps.

Hey everyone, thank you all so much for taking the time to share those details.

I’ve passed everything along to the team internally, and they’re actively looking into it. I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have more clarity or updates to share.

Thanks again for your patience in the meantime!

Same problem.
FYI: whenever I click outside of Figma (anywhere) and focus back on the app, it comes back to normal.
But the issue always comes back eventually.
