Spacebar panning glitch in Figma

I have been experiencing unusual behavior in Figma for several days. When I use Spacebar + mouse to pan, the canvas moves unpredictably in different directions while the spacebar is pressed. Refreshing Figma temporarily resolves the issue, but the glitch reoccurs frequently. I am using Figma Web.

Hey @YPM, thanks for flagging this!

To help us troubleshoot the issue, can you answer a few things for us?

  • Is this also happening in the desktop app?
  • What is the browser you're using? Can you please try a different browser and see if it helps? Our supported browsers are Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge
  • Is this happening on any specific file or all files?
  • Can you please send us a screen recording capturing the issue including the steps you took to reproduce the issue?
  • Are you on Mac or Windows?
  • Is this issue specific to Figma design or FigJam as well?
  • Are you encountering this issue only when you use Spacebar + mouse or do you have the same issue using the trackpad from the laptop as well?

Thank you for your help!

He @Sarang Atre! Since you’re seeing this in the desktop app on Windows 11, one thing to try first is uninstalling and reinstalling Figma to see if that clears it up.

To help us narrow this down further, could you also let us know a bit more?

  • Does the same issue happen if you use Figma in a browser? (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox)

  • Is this occurring in one specific file, or across all files?

  • Are you seeing this in Figma Design, FigJam, or both?

  • Does it only happen when using Spacebar + mouse, or does it also occur with a laptop trackpad?

  • If possible, a short screen recording showing the issue and the steps to reproduce it would be really helpful.

Once we have this info, I can get you connected with our technical quality team to investigate this further!

Same issue and following Apple M1- Mac OS Sequoia 15.5. started happening after the last update

Oleg Serediuc

Same issue on an Figma Desktop, on M3 Pro running Sequoia 15.7.3. It happened before, then disappeared after an update, and now it’s back.

Behavior: when I press Space + mouse click and drag, the canvas moves as expected at first. But as soon as I release the mouse click while still holding Space, the canvas continues moving on its own.

Same issue. Really erratic behaviour in navigating figma boards making it quite difficult to operate.

  • So far on desktop - will try on browser and update
  • Happening across files
  • Working in figma design
  • spacebar and mouse for me

Hard to take a video as it is erratic but it has been happening intermittently and often for about 3 weeks now.

Also seemingly after the last update.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but same problem.

Fix would be super appreciated. Thanks

Yeah can someone from Figma address this? This happens ALL the time for me in the Figma Desktop-app (Mac/Beta).

Hey @Bronwyn1, thanks for sharing those details! I’ve gone ahead and created a support ticket on your behalf so our team can properly investigate this. Your ticket number is #1743808, for reference.

When you get a chance, could you download your Figma Desktop debug logs and attach them to the ticket? That will give the team more visibility into what’s causing this.

Appreciate your patience in the meantime!

Hey @pear, I can create a support ticket for you as well so we can investigate properly. Before I do, could you help me narrow it down a bit:

  • Does this also happen in the browser version, or only in the Desktop (Beta) app?

  • Is it happening across all files or only certain ones?

  • Is this in Figma Design only, or are you seeing it in FigJam too?

  • Is this issue specific to Figma design or FigJam as well? Are you encountering this issue only when you use Spacebar + mouse or do you have the same issue using the trackpad from the laptop as well?

Thank you!

Hey @Gayani_S , no this is not the browser version this happens in - only Desktop/Mac (Beta).

All files.

I believe it’s only Figma Design this happens in, at least far as I noticed.

Only using Spacebar + mouse. This happens rarely, occasionally. I can not connect the dots in where and why it happens. I’m using a Magic Trackpad next to my computer also, which suffers the same issue. I’ve not tried a regular mouse, but Macbook built in trackpad + magic trackpad suffers with this error together with spacebar.
