Problem with typography variable when I'm using the prototype mode

Hello Figma, I’ve encountered an issue when using typographic variables. I’ve configured all the fonts according to the parameters allowed by the program, but when applying them and switching to prototype mode, it doesn’t respect the settings established as variables.

In my case, I’ve used two different types of typography, “Flexo” and “Nunito,” but both font families have different names for their weights. My question is, does this affect the variables?

I’m attaching a video of the issue I’m facing, and I hope to find a possible solution to this problem.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing the screen recording. To better understand the issue, could you share the prototype settings? If I understand correctly, you want to maintain the font weight while the mouse is hovering. Is that right?

Hi,

Thank you for the response. I want to maintain the font family and weight settings I have chosen for the font family variable. Initially, the right button displayed a different font family and weight (Nunito-Semibold); however, after scrolling, both variables shifted, taking on the font characteristics of the left button (Flexo-Demi).

Thanks for the details! I tested it on my end using Roboto and Nunito since I don’t have Flexo, and it seems to be working fine with both fonts. If the issue persists with Flexo, you might want to try reinstalling the font:

Hi Yoku, thank you for the video. I reinstall the typography but I had the same problem. Also, I noticed that you’re encountering a similar issue with the font family. If you examine your design closely, you’ll see that the Nunito font is thinner and has curved strokes, unlike Roboto, which has linear strokes (0:17). However, when you launch the prototype screen, both buttons display the “Roboto” typography (0:26).

At 0:26: The buttons are utilizing the first Typography variable. If you notice, the second button, which employs the second variable (font family Nunito), is not functioning.

I think this is something about the Figma Prototype that is not calling the correct typography variable. I’m going to send this case to my design system team so they can arrange a meeting with the Figma team.
