New left navigation bar wastes horizontal space

Please add an option to hide the left navigation bar (File / Agents / Assets / Tools / Variables). It permanently wastes horizontal space, which is a significant issue because it already felt like the left side of the interface took up too much space even before this change.

I would like to keep the Layers panel but hide only the navigation column, please make it optional. Shift + \ is not possible in my case because I do need all the other panels constantly during my work

Hey @Sofia_S, welcome to Figma Forum and thanks for taking the time to lay this out so clearly.

If you're up for it, can you share more about your screen setup and the workflows this impacts most (e.g. split screen, smaller display)? That context helps when I pass this along to the product team. While I don't have a timeline to share, I'll make sure your feedback gets tracked with the right folks.

One potential solution in the meantime: It won't hide the navigation column, but you can narrow the both the left and right sidebars by hovering over the inner edge until a resize arrow ◂▸ appears, then dragging to adjust. That may claw back a little canvas space.

I'll keep an eye out for your reply as we continue to follow feedback on this. 🙏🏻

Thank you @Tom Reem  for your reply and for passing my feedback forward!

I am using a 15.6-inch laptop screen, so every bit of space matters. I usually work with Figma on a single screen. The issue affects me most while designing interfaces and editing large frames because I need as much visible space as possible. The permanently visable navigation column reduces the workspace and forces me to zoom in and out more often.

Thank you again for forwarding the feedback and I hope this feature can be considered in a future update!
