Issue with prototype view

Julia Gerungan

Hi Figma Support,

I'm experiencing an ongoing bug with the prototype view in the Figma desktop app that affects almost all of my files.

**Issue:**
When I try to open a prototype (via the Present button or prototype view), it does not open correctly. The prototype either opens the wrong frames, opens unrelated pages, or doesn't function as expected.

**What I've already tried:**
- Refreshing the editor (Cmd + R)
- Closing and reopening the file
- Clearing the Desktop App Cache
- Duplicating files

None of these solutions resolved the issue.

I have the same problem. It did work correctly a few hours ago, but it has stopped properly now.

  • “Content scale: Fill screen” and “Fit width and height” DO work
  • “Content scale: Responsive” or “Content scale: Fit width” DO NOT work

I see just rectangles/squares that do not even correspond to my layout.

Hey there, thanks for reaching out, and thanks to @Dani Calero  and @Betty  for jumping in too.

I can see this is affecting a few of you, so I want to make sure we get to the bottom of it.

A couple of things to try in the meantime:

  1. Check your desktop app version, go to the Figma menu > Help and account > About Figma. Make sure you're on the latest stable version (you can also download it directly from Figma downloads).
  2. Try switching content scale to "Fixed size", open the prototype options menu in the presentation view and select Fixed size. @Dani Calero, this may help you bypass the rendering issue with Responsive and Fit width while we look into it.
  3. Try opening the prototype in the browser, this helps us understand whether the issue is isolated to the desktop app.

I'd like this to be flagged with our team for investigation. To help us narrow things down, could you each share:

  • Which desktop app version you're on (Windows or macOS)?
  • Does the issue happen on all files or specific ones?
  • Does it also occur in the browser?

Really appreciate you all taking the time to report this!

Hi @Gayani_S ,

  1. I’m on version 126.5.6 (No available updates).
  2. As I mentioned, only Content scale “Fill screen” and “Fit width and height” work (But I don’t use those, I need “Responsive”.
  3. It also happens on the browser when I use the “Share prototype” link.

  • I’m on Windows 11
  • It happens only on certain frames.
  • It does

Hello,
I'm using Figma Desktop App version 126.5.6 on Windows.
My prototype (both in the application and in the browser version) opens a blank page with only a background color.

This works correctly in "Fit width" and "Fill screen" views.

I should add that the problem doesn't occur with all my files.

Hi again @Gayani_S , I think I found what’s causing the problem.

I’ve been working on a frame that was showing all prototype content scales properly, but once I added a new “Grain” overlay with a Blend Mode (“Plus darker” in this case, but happens with any blend mode) over an element, the same problem started to appear.

To reproduce:

  1. Add a website frame with any content
  2. Check “Responsive” Content Scale is working.
  3. Add a rectangle shape (Important that it is a rectangle shape and not a frame) anywhere.
  4. Add any blend mode to this shape.
  5. Check “Responsive” Content Scale stopped working.

I’ve checked and this does not happen when you use a Frame instead of a shape. In my case, I was using this rectangle shape to add a grain overlay.

EDIT: It is weird because I have one rectangle shape with a blend mode positioned “fixed” on the page (exact same rectangle) which is working (the problem does not appear), but once I add the second one, the problem appears.

EDIT 2: I’ve tested adding a second Frame instead of a second rectangle shape and the problem shows up again. I’ve also tested by using “Sticky” positioning instead of fixed, and the problem appears again but ONLY when this overlay layer is on top of the content, not when it is under it.

Every time i click on present i get this weird full orange screen and i can’t see anything. Can someone help? I can only see the navigation bar that’s fixed on my slide.

I’m experiencing the same problem.

It seems like any object with a blend mode other than “Normal” causes the prototype to show just a full screen of random color from the design. (I also noticed that an object or frame with glass effect shows the correct design behind it, and outside of it’s boundaries is still that random block of color.)

No matter if the object or frame is positioned automatically within an autolayout or is in a fixed place, the problem still persists.

The Flows that doesn’t have any blended elements show up correctly both in the desktop app and in browser (I tested only in Chrome). The Flows with blended elements seem to work correctly when opened in a browser without logging in with any Figma account (for example when opened in an incognito tab).

Any update on this issue would be much appreciated.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for the continued updates on this thread, especially to @Dani Calero for the detailed reproduction steps and @WebITMax for the incognito comparison. Apologies for the delayed response from me.

Here's where we're at:

I’ve now flagged to the team that this is affecting multiple people and asked to investigate this.

A couple of things that may help while this is being looked into:

  1. Try "Fixed size" content scale, open the prototype options in presentation view and select "Fixed size."
  2. Try opening in an incognito/private browser window (not logged into Figma), as @WebITMax flagged, this may render correctly.
  3. If possible let me know if you can, share your file with support-share@figma.com with "Can View" access so our team can test directly against your files.

This is actively being looked at. I'll keep this thread updated as soon as we have more to share.

Really appreciate the patience and the thorough reporting from everyone.

Hey @Bernardo Torres ,thanks for flagging this! I've gone ahead and merged your post with a similar thread where other users are reporting the same issue. Our team will keep that thread updated as soon as we have more information. You can follow the steps shared by @Gayani_S below in the meantime, thank you!

Great discovery. Images with a blend mode make the prototype screen fail. That’s what happend to me
