I’m creating a template in Figma Slides. I deleted the predefined colors and added new ones, but when I click “Remix Template Colors,” the old deleted colors come back (with broken links in the ‘selection colors’ overview). It seems they’re not actually removed. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hey
Quick question: Are you copying slides from other files into your template? If so, this might be related to this issue that other Figma Slides users have reported — our product team is tracking it.
If that doesn’t match what you’re seeing, could you share a few more details on the steps leading up to the the unexpected behavior? That’ll help me test further and escalate appropriately.
Hey Tom, thanks for your reply.
I am not copying from other presentation. The step i have taken are the following (if i recall correctly):
- Drafts overview → New slides → Make a template
- Open template style pop-over in the right sidebar (light slides)
- (changed all the font styles)
- Then I changed all the existing colours, to the colours I want to use (and renamed them)
- with the tiny icon that appears when you hover over a colour
- Deleted the old colours that where not necessary for me
- Then I made a few slides based of the default layouts, in the left side bar.
- After that i tried the remix button. which appears when you hover over the template style, in the right sidebar.
- This is where the rogue colours appeared on my slide. but they appeared as named colors i attached a screenshot with an example.
- This dark green is not in my template en is called ‘color 2’ and appears when the remix button is clicked
I hope this will enable you to recreate te problem :)
Hi
I walked through the steps you outlined (super helpful, thank you!) but wasn’t able to reproduce the same behavior on my end. To confirm, these are the issues I was looking for:
- fill colors showing up under Others in this deck that aren’t part of the template
- unexpected colors getting added to slides when using the
Remix template colors button.
If you're still seeing this happen, we’d love to take a closer look at the file where this showing up. When you have a moment, could you loop in our Product Support team directly and include the following?
- a link to this Forum thread for reference
- a link to the affected file
- edit access granted to support-share@figma.com.
That’ll help us get a clearer picture and investigate further. I’ll keep a lookout for other reports and thanks again for bringing this to our attention.
Hello @Tom Reem,
I can confirm Joost’s inquiry: in Figma Slides, removed template colors are still available for “Remix Template Colors”, showing up as broken variables.
Steps to reproduce:
- Create a new Figma Slides file
- Remove some template colors
- Use the “Remix slide colors” function
- “Ghost” template colors don’t necessarily show up immediately due to the random nature of the remix button, but they will eventually appear.
I have created a quick screencast as a follow-up:

Thank you for looking into this issue.
Hey
I’ll continue testing on my side and share your findings with the appropriate team members. We’ll follow up here with any updates as soon as they’re available.
Again, I appreciate the detail you’ve both brought to this — it really helps us understand the situation.
