Figma deck being rejected during Google Meet presenting

Hi all,

Like I mentioned in the title, when myself and others join a google meet and attempt to present a Figma Slide (via Figma Desktop App), it will get rejected by the google meet within 2-5 seconds.

Things to note:

1.Happens randomly but I saw it firsthand

2.This issue does not quit the Figma app itself, just rejects the window.

3.Doesn’t appear to be an issue of hardware, since users are able to stay within the google meet call and the computers don’t crash/restart.

4.Issue even occurs when app is up to date on app and mac OS updates.

I’ve been reading around and seeing some band-aid fixes (ex:saving the slides locally), however I would prefer this issue to be resolved on the app level. This issue may start to grow and saving locally shouldn’t be the final resolution.

I cannot reproduce a screen recording, when I attempt to replicate the issue, I can’t. But as my luck, the issue occurs during important non-public facing meetings (work).

Please let me know if this is an issue that will be fixed in the near future. Thank you!

Hey, @Juan Castillo! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this, particularly since it’s disruptive to your work meetings. I appreciate the detailed write-up!

Is this thread where you saw various solutions? I just want to make sure I’m seeing the same info as you. I have a couple ideas that you can try:

  • Use Figma in the browser instead of the desktop app when presenting via Google Meet. I realize there may be reasons you want to use the desktop app, though this has been the most reliable workaround across reports.
  • Avoid fullscreen mode in the desktop app when sharing. You didn’t mention that you were doing this, but I thought I’d call this out in the event you were.

According to thread above, we released a fix for the issue though it may have been resolving a slightly different issue. Let me know if you still have trouble after this and I’ll get you over to our Technical Quality team.

It was not that specific thread. The solutions I discovered were in a combination of Figma and Reddit forums. Using the browser instead of the app would be a good way temporary solution we can definitely try.

In regards to using full screen mode, I actually did not take note of that but will follow up once it happens again to another user.

If possible, may I still get in touch with the Technical Quality team? So far I’m only really finding short-term solutions and realistically I expect users to eventually forget to switch between the app and the browser and this issue to come back to my attention in the next month or so.

As of the moment I’m directing users to ensure to clear all non-essential tabs (within the Figma app), clear cache, quit app (if needed), restart device, and ensure all latest software updates have been installed. Hoping for the best but I’d like to ensure this issue can be addressed in a near future update
