Creating a Make Kit- design library not showing up on the list

Hi,

I am trying to create a Make kit and I click Add items on your kit > Libraries and it lists down the libraries available in the organization. However, there are libraries that I need that are not shown on the list even if I search for them.

Are there any settings required on our library files for it to be used in Make kits?

Thanks for the screenshot, @LucasGP! I actually saw that in my own file, too, and was also confused. 😅

I’ve got clarification, though, which should help for everyone in this thread who is having trouble using a library in Make.

We removed the option within Figma Design to use the library in Make - we’ll be updating the help article shortly so it’s up-to-date. To use a library in Figma Make:
1. Open your Make File and click on the Gear icon on the top right.
2. Choose Create a kit.
3. After loading, click on Library Styles on the Create a kit popup.
4. In the search bar, search for your published library.
5. Click on the library in the list, then click on Start generating.
If you don’t see your Library listed after searching, make sure of the following with your Library:
1. Ensure that the library includes at least one style (fill, stroke and text styles) or variable (boolean, float and color variables).
2. You’ve published the library since adding at least one style or variable.
3. You library’s sharing permissions are correct so it’s available for whoever is trying to use it to make a kit.

I’m marking this as the solution as it worked for me, but please let me know if you still has trouble!

Hey all!

I checked with our team just to make sure and can confirm that styles or variables are required in order for the library to show up. I also shared with them that this created some confusion because it wasn’t explicitly clear that this was a requirement.

Edit: Some extra clarification that I just received is that we only extract fill, stroke and text styles, as well as boolean, float and color variables.

@Hattie Tadsen, you’ve already found this yourself, but for anyone else wondering which menu this is in - it’s in the Filename dropdown > Library rather than the File dropdown or Figma logo:

This particular step is covered in the help article on bringing library styles to a make kit.

If anyone has styles or variables in a published library and the option isn’t shown, let me know. I asked for clarification if there are any other nuances to this, but I can also take specific examples to them as well.

This solution didn’t work for my design libraries - I still only have 5 of 13 published libraries showing up when trying to create a kit. All of my components are linked to styles/variables and I also reorganized and republished my libraries to try and make it even easier for Make to recognize the files but still only the same 5 libraries are showing up.

Sorry to hear that the solution didn’t work for you, @Lauren_McKeen.

I just created a ticket for you with our support team and escalated it, so you should get that in your email shortly. When you get a chance, please reply with any information you can about the libraries that are not showing up. I think it would be best for our support team to look at the libraries in specific so they can determine why they aren’t showing.

Thanks for your post, @fayet.

Let’s see if we can figure out together why you aren’t seeing some libraries as available for your Make kit. For every library that you want available for Make, you’ll need to do the following:

In Figma Design, go to the library you want to use in a Make kit.
If you haven't yet, publish the library.
Click the down arrow next to the file name, and then Use library in Make.

For those that are not showing, can you follow the steps above? I imagine that these libraries are published, but they may still need you to click to use them in Make.

Let me know if you have any trouble!

Sorry, I don’t see any “Use library in Make” in the drop-down on the file name. Am I missing permissions (full seat, organization)?

Hey both, thanks for flagging this!

I’m jumping in to help here on behalf of @adamsmasher. Before I loop in our support team, could you try the steps below, which @adamsmasher also suggested.

Open the Design library file
Go to Assets, then Libraries, then Publish
After publishing, click Export for Make and allow the export to fully complete
Go back to your Make file, click Select a Library, and check if the library now appears

If it’s still not showing up after that, let me know and I can get a support ticket created so the team can investigate further.

Once we create the ticket, it’d be helpful to share:

A link to the design library file you’re exporting
A screenshot of the publish modal (showing whether Export for Make is available or any errors)
Confirmation that the Make file and library file are in the same organization
View access for support-share@figma.com so the team can check the export state on their end

No need to share any of this publicly here on the forum, you can provide it directly in the support ticket.

Another thing you could try in the meantime is duplicating the library, publishing the duplicate, and then importing that into your Make file.

Hi, I don’t find any “Export to Make” options - not on the publish window, not in the Figma icon menu, not on the filename drop-down. Where else do I need to look?
