Copy Interactions not working properly

Since Friday 16th of July the way I copy paste interactions is not working anymore. I normally would left-click on my noodle and press Ctrl+C and paste it into another object with Ctrl+V. The behavior is erratic, but mostly the whole object gets pasted onto the Frame instead of the interaction.

I have already

  • cleared Desktop Cache
  • tried it in new files
  • tried with other accounts
  • tried on another PC

It’s really annoying for complex prototypes with lots of if/else interactions.

Hello again! Good news — I touched base with the Technical Quality team, and Engineering has pushed a fix that should resolve this issue. ✅

If you haven't already, please close and reopen your files. After that, copying interactions should work as expected.

Thanks again for your reports and your patience while we followed up on this — and don't hesitate to reach out with any other questions or feedback.

Hey @Marc0, welcome to Figma Forum and thanks for your report. Appreciate you taking the time to troubleshoot before posting, too. 🙏🏻

To help narrow this down, could you confirm a few more things?

  • Are you seeing this in the Figma Desktop App, in the browser, or both?
  • If it's the app, can you check that you're on the latest version? Click the Figma menu in the top-right and select "Check for Updates."
  • You mentioned trying another PC — what OS versions are the devices you're using?
  • Was this working consistently for you before Friday the 16th?
  • If you happen to catch any error message with the unexpected behavior, please also reply with a screenshot or recording.

This'll help me dig in and escalate for further review if needed. Thanks again!

Hello @Tom Reem,

Just a quick side note, sometimes it seems like a clipboard error, since when I copy while on the noodle, and then paste it, it pastes the last text I had copied.

  • Are you seeing this in the Figma Desktop App, in the browser, or both?
I see the behavior on both platforms
  • If it's the app, can you check that you're on the latest version? Click the Figma menu in the top-right and select "Check for Updates."

Checked it today, it is up to date
  • You mentioned trying another PC — what OS versions are the devices you're using?
It was on Windows 11 Version 25H2 (Build 26200.8655) Enterprise and Windows 10         (Can’t look that up rn)
  • Was this working consistently for you before Friday the 16th?
Yes I was using it for a long time, I think it only didn’t work when I clicked on the wrong part or didn’t hit ctrl+c accurately
  • If you happen to catch any error message with the unexpected behavior, please also reply with a screenshot or recording.
hm not really, is there a way to see some messages in browser dev tools maybe?

It’s happening to me too, since last week. I did everything Marc0 did too. It’s both on browser and platform. I raised my own topic too.

It copies even the component, frame, or whatever but not the “link” which worked perfectly before.

Hi Figma Support,

I’m experiencing this issue as well, just like many other users. Based on my experience and technical skills, it appears that the problem is on your side, not with our machines.

However, it was working before Friday the 16th!

Figma Desktop App version 126.7.8

Hello!

I raised my own topic. But sharing here too.

My issue is building prototypes, not on components.

I’m using Figma Desktop App version 126.6.14. on Tahoe 26.1. (I also tried on Web version)

My normal workflow was working beautifully.

  1. I copied an interaction on a prototype (just selected the blue line of the interaction and hit Command + C. It was never from the right side panel.)
  2. I selected the layer/component where I wanted that interaction on all the prototype
  3. Used “Select matching layers”
  4. Pasted the interaction on all (Command + V)
  5. Done

Now every time I try to copy the blue line interaction it doesn’t work. It pastes the component with the interaction, or any text I had on my clipboard.

My normal workflow took me less than a minute to complete a big prototype. Now is making me select layer by layer to add the interaction. Or copy the component and placed it correctly again and again.

Hi everyone, thanks for the updates and the extra detail — sorry it's still getting in the way of your work.

I followed up with the Customer Support team, and they've received your report, @Pencilixel — your case number is: 2031127. They'll be in touch directly once they've had a chance to review the file.

@Marc0, I've opened a ticket on your behalf as well. Since your setup checks out and it's still happening, it'll help the team to look at the file directly and see where the copy is failing. Please check the inbox tied to your Figma account for a message from me with the case number: 2034086. On the dev tools question — you don't need to pull console logs yourself at this time. If you can catch it happening, a short screen recording is the most useful thing to send along, and the Customer Support team can point you to anything else they need.

And, @Silvia Gamboa, I’ve also raised this post with the team internally so this issue is on their radar. Appreciate your patience as we connect the dots on what’s happening here.

Still a major issue… 8 days after this post.  Ridiculous… this is a problem for every person who uses Figma to build even reasonably complex prototypes, which is most of your core customers.  This should be an all hands on deck issue for the core product team to resolve immediately (since their bad code apparently broke the app).

I sent a follow-up email, but I haven’t received a response yet. This is affecting my performance and the time I spend on my projects. ☹️

Rick Tilghman

It’ll only make you feel worse, but I’ve encountered this problem multiple times over the last 3-5 years.  Basically dev makes a change and breaks this behavior on a regular basis.  It then takes them an eternity to unwind it and it “just starts working” again one day.  They’ll say it’s a problem with memory and big prototypes or lots of interactions, but it isn’t… there are tons more complex and intensive aspects of the app.  They just do a very poor job of UAT in an app with a high number of complex behaviors that are easy to conflict or interrupt.  The issue is, I’m pretty sure, that there is some kind of focus problem between the object and interaction copying… whenever I copy and paste an interaction it always pastes the actual OBJECT.  Super frustrating, because rewriting logic repeatedly is incredibly inefficient.

Chiming in here to say I have the same issue as well; it pastes my last copied text or item instead of the interaction. Not sure since when since it’s been a while I’ve worked with prototypes but can confirm it’s not working for 2 days for me now on the latest version 126.7.10 on windows desktop app 😑

Prasad Nagbhushana

Please fix this ASAP… its driving me nuts…. Basically i have keep linking same stuff again and again… If the elements are far apart dragging the link arrow is very tedious…. copy and paste is the perfect way….

Please make sure in future wen you release test the core functionalities. This will affect a lot of people….

Hey @Rick Tilghman and @Pencilixel — thanks for the followups, and I'm sorry this is still getting in the way of your work.

I've flagged these reports internally, and am escalating to our Technical Quality team so they can dig into more specifics.

For anyone else following this issue here, the biggest thing that would help us reproduce it is a file where this is happening. If you haven’t already shared access, please run though the following:

  • Open the Support Hub → click Start a chat → type "Report a bug"
  • Share the affected file with support-share@figma.com with view access

With that, it will open up a secure case where our team can take a deeper dive. A note on your OS and app version (like the details @Tascha already shared) helps too. I'll keep watching this thread for additional reports, and get back with more updates as soon as I uncover more information.

@Tom Reem ok I was able to boil it down (at least for me) to interactions that contain a change to interaction; the file page to mess around in for anyone interested:

I’ll also open up a bug report now 🫤

I just created my report #2058572

Please everyone, create a report so they can see that this is a real issue!

  • Open the Support Hub → click Start a chat → type "Report a bug"
  • Share the affected file with support-share@figma.com with view access

Thank you both so much for taking the time to do that, @Silvia Gamboa and @Tascha — and for narrowing down when it happens and sharing a file to reproduce it.

Confirming we've received both of your reports and passed the details along to the Engineering team so they can dig deeper into what's happening. I'll keep watching this thread and relay any further reports. If the Technical Quality team needs anything else to reproduce it, they'll follow up through your support ticket.

Thanks again for sticking with us on this.

I just tried, then tried again after also closing Figma alltogehter and still no dice; same behavior as before see video 😕

The frantic flashing of the right element is caused by me repeatedly pressing cmd + c btw 😅

(fyi I will eventually delete this video from my dropbox, but it will stay as long as I have some space left 😅 which will be at least for a month)
